The Best Way To Get Started Learning Farcaster: Web3 Social

Learn about Farcaster in one minute.

If you haven't been living under a rock in Web3, you've probably heard of Farcaster: a buzzing Web3 Social protocol.

Farcaster is a cross between Twitter and Reddit. You can write casts (tweets) and post them to specific channels (subreddits). This is great as it inherently nudges you to write for a niche.

Now, some of you may be wondering,” Why?” Existing Web2 social media platforms can de-platform (rug) you at any moment.

Trojan horse gudddd

Farcaster is "sufficiently decentralized,” meaning that if two users want to communicate despite the entire network’s opposition, they can still do so.

I was first introduced to Farcaster at the DeFi Security Summit in Paris in July 2023, but I needed help figuring out where to start.

I am not an expert, nor do I have a huge following, but I am learning!

So, let’s get your hands dirty to learn more about Farcaster; here's the best way to get started:

  • Download Warpcast: Start by installing the client here. This is an app that allows you to

  • Try it out! Once you’ve installed the app and signed up, play around with it and engage with it!

  • Pick a channel: If you've played with the app a bit, you'll notice there are different channels. Ideally, you pick something you’re interested in, and the number of followers is high enough to create engagement.

  • Advanced tip: use something like neynar to get a list of all the channels that exist and filter based on your criteria.

Farcaster is here to stay; the product is excellent, and they are well funded.

It is a Web3 native platform but without the standard UX friction and pains of a Web3 product.

I also view it as the primary distribution channel for web3 audiences.

So, what are you waiting for? Go and try it.
