Go away

(...actually I am happy to see you.)

This post references Read, Write Own by Chris Dixon, of which I was given a copy.

I am writing quickly and briefly, as the algorithms of Warpcast are, at the moment, somewhat in my favor. (Thanks to a frame built by @chusla for this NFT project.)\

“ The Computer vs The Casino” is the title of Chapter 12 in Chris Dixon’s book Read Write Own. According to his analogy, there are now two groups focused on blockchain: those who want to create “a new computing movement”, and those focused only on speculation/moneymaking.

I bring these points up because there are discussions that Warpcast can grow to rival twitter.

Hmmmm… if Warpcast is only supertechies and gamblers, I’m not sure that there will be a great wave of people onboarding.

On a personal  level, I am way out of my league on Warpcast, but this is something I enjoy. I wonder how many newbs want to be surrounded by 8 bit avatars and posts about L2, F4F, network states, frogs and hams, etc..

I enjoy the challenge of being out of my league on Warpcast, the dumbest in a room full of the brightest alphas. If I can learn 1% of what goes on on Warpcast, and act upon that, I am more than satisfied: I am grateful, grateful for being "early. For example, thanks to @chusla, @basemint and one2all, I have been very fortunate to experiment with frames and NFTs.

But, so far, there are only two channels that I do not feel lost on: Books and Japan. I am sure I will find others. I am thinking of starting my own channel (but I need to think of the price tag).

So… assuming that onboarding is part of the Warpcast mission,  perhaps we can have computers, casinos… and cafés? A cafė-like atmosphere, on at least a small percentage of Warpcast,  would definitely be a step towards making crypt newbies feel welcome.

Elsewhere in his highly recommended book, Chris Dixon references the 1999 essay “The Cathedral and the Bazaar” by Eric Raymond. The planned precision of companies like Microsoft being the Cathedral; “promiscuous” open source projects like Linux being the other. These refer to Web2.

So yeah, let’s build a cafe on blockchain, on Warpcast. Maybe even a dive bar with no sign, dirty floors, cheap drinks and a grumpy bartender who makes everyone feel unwelcome equally, in the best possible way.

My first post about Read Write Own was on Medium. On Medium you will also find a few text/chat posts with Andrew Chu from one2all.The series is called SBAC. Eventually, I will boil those down and rewrite them to post here on Paragraph.

About me, Stephen Black: Starting point: I am the spatial cinema artist of the OARC, the Open Augmented Reality Cloud. I've written books, published the works of others, curated and produced all kinds of things, written/produced/managed for network TV. I've done all kinds of art projects and exhibitions, most in Asia, and most very under the radar.

Bubiko Foodtour, my co-creation, starred in a short AR/IRL project that is considered to be the first public project in the metaverse.
