Intro

Back at it again with issue #2. As a recap, at heart, I am a geek and I enjoy really techy items even if I myself am not the most technical person. I personally think it has to do with how tech is used to express oneself that attracts me to all of this. This segment I want to highlight three cool things I encounter that I don't make it to the newsletter or just deserve their own posts.

#1 In Game/Mini Games

Gaming as a whole is a huge industry. To put things into perspective gaming is a 184 Billion USD industry versus movies being around 26 Billion USD. We are seeing companies pivot and dabble into gaming even if they are not "traditional" gaming companies. A great example of this is the New York Times their gaming division keeps getting larger and larger now and helps them with their news side of things. Anyways, I have a fascination for in game or mini games inside of other apps. In this case, Undefined created a chess game inside of a Farcaster frame and it is extremely well done so make sure to check it out and give it a go. I am also happy to play with anyone if interested. What is so cool about this is, users are already spending a considerable amount of time in this app and adding games is an area that I think we need to explore heavily. It is how we get users coming back daily. This is why Telegram is exploring this as well.

#2 Group Curation and NFTs

This market has really taken many great teams and projects. Curating a list of active users and keeping that engagement up is tough. When the euphoria is high and everyone is winning it is easy to keep coming back and being active. But the goal isn't just being active for activity sake, the goal is to create actual connections and have great conversations. NFTs have been sold as a way to get access to these types of chat and in some case it has delivered and others not so much depending on what projects you partake in.

452b and its creator OG are taking a new approach to curating a list of people with a unique custom contract made by the legend Pindar Van Arman and NFT artwork by Bastien. This token is revocable so access to gated chats can be lost. There are review process some done onchain and other offchain but overall, I don't know many projects who are using this functionality in NFTs and that are pushing the boundaries of curating a group of users who are still active and showing up and contributing on a daily basis. I suspect we will see more token launches for gates chats/communities that leverage this type of tech.

#3 Onchain Betting With Friends

Have you ever wanted to have a friendly wager with a friend and they give verbal confirmation but when it comes to payday people forget or get fuzzy with the details? Well now you can place your bet with your friend onchain. No more fuzzy details, just find an agreed upon neutral 3rd party you both agree on and bet with your friends on whatever you desire. The stakes don't even have to be that high, you can bet with your friend that you will run a half marathon before the end of the year if not, you will give them 10$. This way you are accountable for your actions. The great thing about putting this onchain is everyone can see it and in the future who knows, this can interact with other onchain apps, that is beauty of putting things onchain, different actions/apps can interact with each other.
