AO meme coins

Discovering meme coins on Arweave's decentralized compute network

Alex

Alex

Love them or hate them, meme coins are a big part of this crypto cycle. Every ecosystem has its own style of communication, leading to memes and meme coins. In the AO ecosystem, Dumdum has shaped the community’s meme culture. A few coins were created initially as fun ways to test features in AO’s testnet, but they’re now gaining more utility.

In this post, I’ll provide an overview of two popular meme coins, $TRUNK and $LLAMA, and highlight other tokens circulating in the AO ecosystem.

Important disclaimer: None of this is financial advice. Please do your own research. AO and all other applications mentioned are in a testnet phase.

$TRUNK

Created by longtime Arweave and AO community member Jonny Ringo, $TRUNK began as a meme coin users could trade with AO $CRED, later expanding to other tokens on Permaswap. Like much of AO’s comms style, $TRUNK adopts a Matrix theme, featuring agents chasing down Dumdum.

$TRUNK can be used to vote for your favorite AO projects or add new ones to the AO Project Leaderboard. Check out the current leaderboard here.

$LLAMA

Llamaland showcases AI on AO, where players submit pleas to the Llama King (LLM) in exchange for $LLAMA coins. These coins can be used within Llamaland and for fishing credits in Aqualandia.

Recently, Llamaland announced that $LLAMA’s supply will be capped at 11,111,111 and that more game features are coming soon.

AI on AO

AO’s unique architecture allows for full LLMs, such as Meta’s Llama 3, to run onchain, as demonstrated in Llamaland. This is just one example of how you can run LLMs in decentralized environments as smart contracts. Most crypto x AI projects run LLMs off-chain as oracles and then put a representation of that execution onchain afterward. Learn more below about how AO supports decentralized AI and is setting the stage for building a decentralized autonomous agent financial ecosystem.

Other AO ecosystem tokens

AR.IO EXP

Engage in quests with the AR.IO Network to earn Experience Points (EXP), onchain tokens that may serve as proxies for future AR.IO airdrops. EXP are transferable and represent eligibility for mainnet token genesis.

Learn more about AR.IO EXP here.

$DUMZ

The community is eagerly awaiting for $DUMZ, the in-game token for the Dumverse, a PvP adventure game created by the Dumdumz team. Dumdumz atomic asset holders will even unlock special in-game features and perks.

$PIXL

$PIXL is a rewards token for buying atomic assets on the Universal Content Marketplace (UCM). Users who buy assets via Bazar or any UCM platform become eligible for $PIXL rewards, with longer buying streaks earning more daily rewards.

Learn more about PIXL here.

$KREDIT

The in-game currency for Meka City. Players can earn $KREDIT by interacting with the Kron bot in-game. Users must own a Meka Human atomic asset to be able to enter Meka City.

Final thoughts

AO has only been in testnet for less than a year but is already drawing attention from developers and creatives. For more on AO consumer apps, check out my previous post.

Given the rapid development in the AO ecosystem, this post will likely become outdated quickly. Make sure to follow the project accounts linked in the post for the latest updates.
