Join us for The Great Memecoin Debate

Welcome to All Things Blockchain your go-to source for keeping up to date with everything blockchain and crypto related.

This month we're talking about memecoins

Are they good? Are they bad? Are they culturally significant?

You decide!

Whatever you think, they are having their moment right now..

THE TLDR;

🐸 PEPE Pump

The ETH eft approval was really good for one thing.. ETHs favourite memecoin PEPE.

The famous frog meme that has now become the third-largest memecoin ever, with $6 billion market cap. Pepe is up over 100% this month and over 1100% year-to-date and has changed the way we look at memecoins and their potential as a cultural symbol and asset.

💅🏼Celebrity Memecoins

This week has been the week for celebrity memecoins, all launching on Solana.

Caitlyn Jenner launched her $Jenner token in a very political adjacent way on X, it pumped to over a hundred million dollar market cap before controversially the Jenner team had to announce they been internally rugged. Oops.

Iggy Azalea launches her token $MOTHER in a bold display of her best assets🍑, $MOTHER is currently sitting at a $80 million market cap. We love to see it.

More about Memecoins:

This month we’re talking Memecoins, and to do that we’re holding an unbiased debate about the role that they play in the crypto ecosystem, with one side for and one against.

If you want to join us and see what each side has to say you can here.

So what’s the cultural significance of Memecoins?

Memecoins have become a significant talking point of this cycle due to their unique combination of internet culture, relevance to the moment, sense of humour, and of course community engagement. They show how tokenisation can be done in a fun and accessible way, serving as a testing ground for new ideas and help drive adoption of crypto.

They challenge traditional norms and question what we consider modern value by leveraging the virality of internet culture and memes, creating a strong sense of connection and identity, also provides tonnes of entertainment alongside the potential for massive financial gains (and losses.)

Meme coins have influenced the financial markets by demonstrating the power of decentralised communities and the impact of social media on asset valuation. This is reflected trends and societal sentiments, which makes for a cultural phenomenon that extends beyond the token itself.

Some notable (or questionable) Memecoins:

Remember to always DYOR, this is not investment advice.

$ENJOY: a memecoin on the Zora network. It's "the first tradable ERC-20 token on Zora Network, is reshaping onchain media creation and curation by enabling the easy rewarding of enjoyable onchain content."
