Scaling Farcaster to 1 Million Daily Active Users
When we take a look at the Farcaster protocol, one may think that we are killing it. I mean we are, and technically we've been very far from our starting point. But, truth be told, there's still a lot of building that needs to be done. Currently, Farcaster has around 80-100k Daily Active Users (DAUs). It might seem a lot, I know it's a lot. But comparing it to other social media platforms like X (250M DAU), Instagram (500M DAU), and Facebook (2B DAU), it seems relatively small. In fact, it isn't even 0.04% of X at the moment.
Varun, one of the main developers of Farcaster, shares the dilemma they have at the moment. While over the last three months, Farcaster has grown 16x from 5,000 to 80,000 daily active users - they are wary that the protocol will survive another 10x without massive improvements.
I totally believe that the people building Farcaster got this in the bag. For sure, there's a lot of things needed to be built, but the best part of it is that we are trending in the right direction. I, for one, like this problem because it is honestly a good problem to have (Insert Suffering from Success Meme). While I have yet to delve further into the full document since it hasn't been released yet, I remain optimistic and based.
