The casting call for The Rise of Blus: A Nouns Movie went live last Monday (7/10/23) and we're thrilled by the incredible characters that are coming in. The city of Blus is becoming a vibrant hub of diverse and imaginative citizens, but there's still room for more! If you've not yet applied, now's your chance to bring your CC0 character to life.
CC0: Open Access for Creative Freedom
CC0, or Creative Commons Zero, is a universal dedication to the public domain. This means that a work has been waived of all its rights to the extent permitted by law. It's a powerful tool that encourages creative freedom and allows creators to share their work with the world. This is a fundamental tenet of the Nouns ecosystem that allows proliferation to be the focus through true creative freedom.
While CC0 may sound like something complex, declaring your work as CC0 is as simple as including a statement like this along with it:
"To the extent possible under law, I waive all copyright and related or neighboring rights to this work."
What does this mean for character creation?
Now that you know you can declare your character as CC0, it's time to create! While I find myself surrounded by artists at Atrium I personally am not gifted illustratively, so I leveraged AI (MidJourney) for my example submission.
If you already have a CC0 asset you can use it as a reference image to create a character in minutes. If you are unsure how to use a reference image in MidJourney click here to learn how.
