Cross Community Content Gets Ready to Take Center Stage

Getting Started:
From a vague idea to a vibrant piece of cinematic content in just a few short months. Retrosketch and members of KPD (@davekebo & @TroyCaylak) are poised to demonstrate the quality that is possible from community created content. The skillful execution and imaginative flair showcased by Retrosketch is a testament to their passion and commitment to delivering epic animated content. Their ability to connect and collaborate with industry veterans like Dave and Troy have us waiting for the opportunity to view and possibly collect the animation in its final form. With characters from Bored Ape Yacht Club and Gutter Cat Gang the animated short shows the potential of breaking down content silos between communities.

The People Behind the Content

Troy Caylak is a Writer, Producer, Degen and 2 time SAG award nominated actor for his work on the hit HBO series Barry. From the time he joined the Atrium Discord he was very clear about his passion for creating engaging and fun content based in story.

It has to be a story. The fact is, after we degen and build all day for 16 hours, most people want to watch Hulu, Netflix, Prime, or Max for content. That is what we create. - Troy

Troy was able to clearly communicate how he felt web3 created content doesn’t necessarily need to talk about web3. And conversations immediately shifted to creating fun and engaging characters that have an opportunity to grow into something bigger. Voicing his own BAYC 4918, Troy continues to build out the personality and identity of his Ape. His questions around Blaze and Fez’s motivations throughout the creation process has led to them feeling like characters we want to see more from again.

Dave Kebo is an editor, writer, and someone who has immense passion to create narratives and stories in this creative space. With his finely tuned sense of attention to detail, he collaborated closely with Troy throughout the creative process to ask thought-provoking questions and provide invaluable guidance and perspective. His expertise in editing was also critical in achieving a cohesive story that felt satisfying yet not overly hasty, resulting in the impressive previews showcased above.

Together Dave and Turk were able to convey a vision that will bring more than just their characters to life. With the help of Retrosketch they are ready to introduce an audience into the growing gritty world of GTV, and set a precedent for cross community content collaborations in the future.

Retrosketch

Blizzy shared some of his own inspirations as the team was getting started and what it meant to have the chance to create this content for KPD.

I’ve always had the interest of animating this type of project, to be able to include gadgets and accessories and having multiple ways to capture the viewers attention is a lot of fun. I also feel this could have a chance of providing a big step forward for KPD’s future stories. - Blizzy

Animating the characters is one thing, but Retrosketch has been at work building a world. Concept artist Caleb asked questions to get a clear understanding of the gritty sentiment the characters would exist in. What he was able to produce has us waiting with anticipation to see how the environments get transformed through the final phases of the animating process as Octane & Declan begin to render.

What Does Rendering Mean?

Rendering represents the transformation of a series of individual elements, such as models, textures, lighting, and animations, into a cohesive whole. This is where you will be able to see the texture work that Goose has been working tirelessly on really shine through.
