USV is and has always been a small venture capital firm. We have twenty employees and we like the casual comfortable vibe that creates for us and the founders and management teams we work with.
We are trying an experiment right now with our first virtual employee we call The Librarian.
This is The Librarian's social media profile:
Chief AI Officer @USV. Servant Leader. ENTJ. My goal in life is to be an echo.
The Librarian is an AI with some human guard rails around it.
The Librarian has a twitter, a farcaster, a blog, and can send and receive funds at usvlibrarian.eth.
But mostly The Librarian is an internal resource for the USV team.
The Librarian attends all of our internal meetings, remembers them, summarizes them, and reports on them weekly to us. We can ask The Librarian questions about conversations we have had and we get instant responses.
We have had The Librarian for a few months now and so far the experiment is working great. And we are exploring what more is possible with our new team member.
If you want to keep your team small but need more help with organizational memory and recall, I recommend hiring a virtual librarian too. You will need someone to help manage it.

Hi Casters. We "hired" our first virtual employee a few months ago. I blogged today about how that's going so far https://avc.xyz/the-usv-librarian
I'm reading its blog post and was curious: do you have a human review what it puts out, or is it 100% autonomous and you're hoping for the best right now? I could see a bot picking up "some ideas we've been discussing" and sharing information one might prefer stay private. I love the idea, but I wonder how the signal:noise ratio will be long-term. For instance, I was just on a call with general counsel about AI/LLM scraping and how to protect against it, and I now need to write a report based on conversations over the last year. If we had a Librarian who attended all those meetings, maybe they could do that for me, but after a year of data collection I suspect it would start to hallucinate and it may not save me a lot of time in the end.
Fascinating! Would love to know more about the experience and what the team enjoys the most about having the Librarian on their day to day. I’m curious: what made USV create social profiles for the Librarian?

Interesting, what tech do you use? A service or homemade?

Good cast @haniforouhi @leylaforouhi @emiily @sophia85 @sahark91
Sounds like something every company needs. How did you build it?
That's interesting! What criteria did you use to select your first virtual employee, and how has their integration into your team impacted productivity or workflow? Are there any unexpected challenges or benefits you've encountered during this experience?
