Make Farcaster Fun Again

How Milo is brining the fun back to Farcaster

Warpcast has lost the magic spark it once had. 

It wasn’t that long ago that Warpcast was filled with eye-catching dopamine-pumping experiments like Yoink, Higher, Gloom, Based Puppies, and Pearl Melees.

They were the products that got you excited every time you opened Warpcast. 

However, apart from a few exceptions, the past few months have seen this flow of fun products rescind. 

Warpcast has slowly evolved from the magic app you can’t wait to open first thing in the morning, to a rather tedious last-resort for doom-scrolling when you have nothing else to entertain you.

Where’d The Fun Go?

Some point the finger at the power badge system for filtering out the fun. Others at things like the infamous “Ticker” scam that soured people's trust. 

However, they were not the root cause.

Ultimately, the ‘fun’ parts of the Farcaster experience stemmed from short-term trends. They would be fun for some time, then simmer out after their initial hype.

It was impossible to maintain the cadence of novelty ‘fun’ experiments Farcaster witnessed in the early parts of 2024.

The short-term, hype-dependent 'fun' projects faded from the spotlight, and only more serious long-term projects remained to take their place, leading to an overall more “boring” user experience.

Bringing Back the Fun

To bring the fun back to Farcaster (for good), we need to find a way to combine all the best parts of the short-term buzz builds of the past, with a new long-term dynamic.

The Game

“The Game” is the first step to to achieving this.

Launching in the /milo channel in the coming weeks, The Game is a symbiotic structure that lays the long-term foundation for “fun products” to build from.

The Game works as follows:

Step 1: Mint/Buy $MILO

Step 2: Stake $MILO

Step 3: Use $MILO to mint BabyMilo NFTs (10 available per week)

Step 4: Stake BabyMilo NFTs to earn $MILO.

A series of Frames will work in tandem to facilitate the Game. The core asset of the Game will be the BabyMilo NFTs—a collection of 1000 unique, hand-drawn characters set to be released over the course of 90 weeks.

The Experiment

“The Experiment” is what allows the ‘fun’ aspects of Farcaster builds to converge with Milo’s long-term “Game.”

The Experiment consists of four key components:

  1. Anti-Jeet Techonolgy: Discourages early speculative investment; the intention is for players to come and join the community for the game, not for the only value of the token.

  2. Traits: BabyMilo NFTs each have unique traits that can be utilized for unique game builds and benefits within the ecosystem.

  3. Treasury/DAO: The 200k $MILO BabyMilo minting fee is paid to the treasury. A DAO will be established to decide on how to distribute treasury funds within the ecosystem.

  4. Campaigns/bounties: The /milo channel hosts various campaigns and bounty programs to stimulate initial ecosystem growth. 

The Arcade

“The Arcade” is where the old-school Farcaster fun lies.

Various mini-games, either in-frame or Farcaster-compatible (or both), will be built out for the Milo Arcade.

These mini-games will emulate experiences from previous Farcaster buzz builds as well as create new experiences for users.

BabyMilo NFT holders will either get special in-game roles, added advantages, or outright exclusive access to these games.

Specific BabyMilo traits could also be given extra benefits over others.

The treasury and DAO will decide how much $MILO to allocate as a reward for each mini-game — adding a play-to-earn element.

The Milo team will fund and incentivize the initial Arcade builds. However, anyone can create a (bot-proof) mini-game for the Arcade and submit it to the DAO to receive $MILO rewards for players.
