Hello there, and welcome to the 13th edition of Base Directory's newsletter.
Every weekday, I'll send you a concise email highlighting everything you need to know about an onchain product built on Base, including my thoughts on it and how you can get started using it.
Today's spotlight is on Alexandria, a product that allows you to collect ebooks onchain permanently.
How Alexandria Works:
At its peak, the Library of Alexandria in Egypt was one of the largest repositories of knowledge in the ancient world with a goal of collecting as many rare works as possible, texts closest to the original transcription.
Over time, a significant amount of the knowledge it contained was destroyed in fires and the library fell gradually into decline until it ceased to exist entirely. We generally regard the destruction of the library as a huge loss to human creativity and culture.
Alexandria exists today in the spirit of the role the Library of Alexandria once played, as a place to discover rare, limited books and build a library for yourself that exists onchain and will stand the test of time.
Using Alexandria is very straightforward:
Connect your wallet, or sign up with your email address. (Embedded wallets are supported)
Scroll through the collection of interesting titles available.
When you see a book that interests you, collect it.
In a world where books are overly commoditized and their true worth is often not reflected in the final price tag, Alexandria offers an interesting digital patronage model for book lovers and writers.
As a book lover, you can directly support indie authors and publishers, knowing that the funds are going directly to them. As a writer, you get more money in your pocket on each sale, can earn royalties on secondary sales and can better offer exclusive perks to your audience that increase the value of your works.
Alexandria is a true delight for every bibliophile and anyone who's ever bemoaned the cutthroat financial dynamic of the publishing industry.
You can keep up with updates from the Alexandria team via their X (fka Twitter) profile and check out the product here.
