Hello there, and welcome to the second edition of Base Directory's newsletter.
Every weekday, I'll send you a concise email highlighting everything you need to know about an onchain product built on Base, including my thoughts on it and how you can get started using it.
Today's spotlight is on Vabble, a recently launched product on Base that can be described as Netflix onchain. You can stream a variety of content from indie filmmakers to community-created and studio projects.
Some of its core features:
A peer-to-peer payment model: You can either stream movies for free or pay per view to the team or studio behind the movie using the in-app token, VAB.
Co-watch: Vabble allows you to stream content alongside your friends and family
NFT token-gating: Access exclusive content using NFTs you own.
The product is still in early development, so there are a number of features in progress like activity rewards, friend lists, and private/group DMs. Content is understandably sparse at this stage.
I found the flow and general experience to be pretty seamless. All I had to do to get started was connect my wallet and create a profile.
It would be very cool if they integrated embedded wallets to aid retention for users new to crypto who don't have wallets yet.
I'm quite excited about the prospect of merging entertainment with blockchain capabilities in this way. It offers a better distribution and earning model for indie-type filmmakers and a potentially rewarding experience for consumers as well.
You can keep up with updates from the Vabble team via their X profile (formerly known as Twitter) and check out the product here.
Thank you for reading through. See you on Monday!
