The ReFi Recap: Searching for success metrics

September 28th-October 4th, 2024

How do we know if ReFi is successful?

In other words, what metrics should we be using to describe its impact?

See, unlike decentralised finance (DeFi), where everything is on-chain and can easily be tracked in real-time, ReFi is a combination of on-chain and off-chain activity. The "impact" most often happens off-chain, which makes it harder to track.

It's not that there aren't options. Ecological credits issued and sold on-chain, amount invested in regenerative projects, and solar energy generated are but three. Some find them unhelpful and reductive, while others acknowledge they're the best we have.

The issue, we think, is trying to figure out whether to use the generally accepted metrics of ecological and social impact or create a new language of success that tries to encapsulate the regenerative economies at the heart of ReFi.

Next week on CARBON Copy, our very own Trinity Morphy details his search for the best way to quantify ReFi's impact.

Stay tuned!
