Yesterday I hosted a FarHouse chat for the first time. It was my first time using the app, which is party-line audio and had definite ClubHouse vibes. One reason I was checking it out was to see how the Moxie integration worked. You are rewarded with Moxie for joining the chat. 50% of the rewards go to the host, 20% to their Fans, 20% to Listeners, and 10% to fans of /farhouse. Streamm.tv, which is video streaming, has a similar integration but I haven't yet tried it. I think it's cool to see this kind of builder activity around Moxie, and between frames and other apps, there are dozens of them including Farcaster flagships like Ponder, Supercast, autmod and BountyCaster. As Binji said recently:
I met Gwynne Michele in the chat. In fact, the entire chat was me, a veteran Farcaster, interrogating Gwynne, a new Farcaster finding success, about her experience. Gwynne is a philosopher and professional content creator. Her entire income for the last many years has come from donations and activities related to posting about her learnings and philosophy. You can read her story here. She's very new to crypto. A few highlights from our chat:
Gwynne is a Top 100 Caster. She has earned it EVERY SINGLE DAY. She has done this with 3.6K followers. I knew the Farcaster team said the stat was normalized by the number of active followers who engage with your posts, making it very possible for small accounts to win, but all of the victory laps I see taken are from big accounts. Gwynne is indeed proof that anyone can be a Top 100 Caster. Her only secret is that she knows how to tell great stories and create great content.
She has effectively been onboarded to crypto through Warpcast, Degen and Moxie. She was instantly hooked by being rewarded for her content. She appreciated the built-in tip culture. She then went on to find Zora and Hypersub. I think she mentioned she got started with $20 in ETH and has been earning tokens since. She sometimes withdraws them to pay the bills but she also puts them back into the ecosystem, for example strengthening her Moxie position.
She is a Moxie expert. As someone who is professionally using Moxie, she has spent the time to learn it deeply, how to best earn it and where to best spend her time. She showed me tools like MoxieScout and some general gameplay knowledge like the Farcaster network fan token is effectively an index fund that will grow as the protocol grows.
It's a lonely time to be a crypto optimist, but meeting people like Gwynne convinces me that there is a better path forward on the internet where people are rewarded for the value they contribute.
