Whatever music is worth knowing
I'll be curating a set of playlists for you to spin async weekly. Everything is hand curated and listened to by me. I'll be bookmarking timestamps for my favorite tracks and transitions. I'll provide you with a more context on the topics too. Also, my rec's will not be limited to electronic music; I think it's important to expand what people consider "DJ" music as I believe there is a DJ for everyone. Let me help you find your new favorite DJ! π«Ά
Some background on me and where I'm coming from. As a musician, I started playing piano at age 7 switched to violin at age 12 and eventually fully committing to being a music educator. In college, I learned over 28 instruments, every way to teach them, and graduated top of my class. For the next 9 years, I taught music full time to kids in public education across the US: Illinois, Florida, PDX, and Las Vegas; orchestra, concert band, chamber music, guitar, and general music; K-5, middle school, and high school. I learned a lot about myself and the state of education. Primarily, that being a music teacher is very different than being a music student in school.
In 2021 while still teaching full-time, I returned to community college to learn basic web development. After completion, I started freelancing on the side and exploring changing careers. I reconnected with a college friend who introduced me to Web3 and my universe exploded exponentially π₯ . I joined SheFi, Boys Club, and became incredibly active leveraging and expanding my knowledge, network, and reach. I joined Reservoir full time in November 2022 as the lead for Developer Relations. Pivoting to DevRel has been the perfect marriage of my past as an educator and my future as a developer.
Finally, I'm here! Who knew on Dec 22, 2022 I would join the best social network? It's been a wild ride. I'm happy to make URL turn IRL friends and host some channels of my own, bicycling & chicago. Also, I am humbled and honor to join the co-host of the djs channel. Thanks to the nudging of @robin and @july I've launched this blog today!
Thanks for sticking with me to the end here. Enjoy some of the mixes I can't stop playing this past week. A good litmus test of what is to come in the next few weeks π
See you next week right here at Slice of Chicago β spinning the illest sets on your time π
