Blockchain is still underrated

Hey there, thank you for visiting this early stage newsletter.

Before talking about why I start this newsletter, let me just briefly introduce about myself first. That will make you understand easily on the reasons for this newsletter.

I was born and raised in Korea. In Korea, there is a fintech mobile application called Toss and i was a really big fan of the application. When I was a kid, it was hard for me to send fiat to someone since telebanking and internet banking was bullshit at that time for young generations who are not familiar w/ finance system. However, Toss made it simple enough for young generations to use it easily and they are now one of the major fintech company in Korea.

Experiencing this evolution of fintech—driven by innovations in user experience—sparked my interest in the industry. It was fascinating to see how technology could solve real-world problems, making life easier for people. This curiosity eventually led me down the rabbit hole of exploring blockchain and crypto, particularly how they could reshape financial systems and other industries. Blockchain, to me, felt like the next big leap—not just a tool for crypto enthusiasts, but a technology with the potential to solve real problems in new ways.

Why Crypto as a Payment Network Matters

One of the most underrated aspects of blockchain is its potential to revolutionize payment systems. Let’s compare the current landscape:

Web2 Payment Systems:

  • Centralized platforms like PayPal or Venmo dominate the market.

  • Fees for cross-border transactions can be high.

  • Dependency on intermediaries makes the system slow and vulnerable.

Web3 Payment Systems:

  • Blockchain enables direct, peer-to-peer transactions with lower fees.

  • Decentralized networks reduce the need for intermediaries.

  • Cross-border payments become seamless and almost instantaneous.

However, despite these advantages, blockchain remains underutilized in payments due to usability hurdles, regulatory concerns, and scalability challenges. This is an area I’m excited to explore more in this newsletter, particularly highlighting projects working to solve these pain points.

Who Should Read This Newsletter?

  1. Developers and Venture Capitalists: If you’re into the technical side of blockchain or looking for the next big thing to invest in, this newsletter will provide insights into emerging technologies and trends.

  2. Degens and Web3 Explorers: For those already deep into the crypto space, I’ll uncover intriguing projects and ideas that push boundaries.

  3. Non-Crypto People: Even if you’re skeptical or just curious, I aim to make blockchain accessible by showing how it might be used in everyday life—beyond the hype.

Shortly, welcome everyone:)
