Some Social Media is Art

The next CoCreation exploring Casts as Art

Some Casts are Art

Digital art in web3 is transcendent; not the mere pixels, but the profound societal shift that is happening through the new technologies and the structures web3 is enabling. I am proposing that the act of casting (writing words and publishing them) on a decentralised protocol is a work of art in its own right. If we view the action of casting from the perspective of an artistic statement, taking part in this open web of immutable digital connections is powerful. The concept is able to transport us into new ways of seeing and thinking, to open up new perspectives, to perhaps be building an additional dimension of thought. The interweaving net of ideas that casting causes, and the questions it is asking of us about the nature of our society, our communities, our relationships are profound.

"Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further" Keith Haring

The protocol as a whole is radical, and then some of the casts (320 character text messages, with links to further content) are then profound in their own right. However we present these transformative casts in the same way as all the other disposable content - we fail to imbue them with power and effect.

Imbuing them as sacred object

The piece we are making starts to ask the question - how to make casts sacred objects - ones that are bigger then themselves, that enable us to glimpse something larger through them?

Objects, words, images are tools, are vessels that take you "elsewhere." This is their function. Federico Campagna

We are making a work together within the CoCreated community to explore this. Selecting between 9 and 25 casts to be included (with permission) and displayed as works of art, rather than as a social media scroll.

This cast from @July provoked the thinking about casts as art, and is the first cast as art to be included.

Collectively we will curate between 8 and 24 more

Process & Deadlines

I intend to enter this into the Optimism art contest closing on the 8th Jan. With winnings / mint profits shared between artist, castor and curators.

1) Propose casts that meet the criteria of artwork - that the text stands alone as art (without relying on embedded links) and can be effectively justified to the rest of CoCreated as an artwork - Deadline 2nd Jan 11:59 EST

2) CoLaborators select the casts to include - by 5th Jan

3) Casts presented in a single HTML artwork created by ChrisCoCreated

The artwork will be limited edition with a copy airdropped to all CoLaborators and selected artists and the rest offered to the market.

It will also be entered into We Love the Art - by 8th Jan.

All proceeds and winnings will be shared as follows:

Chris - concept, facilitation, execution 40%

Cast Authors - 20% split between all selected casts

Curators - 20% split between the proposer of all selected casts

Voters - 10% shared between all CoLaborators involved in selecting

CoCreated Wallet - 10% for the community to curate with
