Coop Records Weekly - New music from Christian French, Evan Giia and Shallou

And Midnight Diner II next Wednesday

Our mission is to bring great music onchain.

We did this week by welcoming two new artists with 1M+ monthly listeners to the Coop Recs family in Christian French (1.2M) and Shallou (1.6M).

This is part of a wider momentum we're feeling internally with returning releases from Pluko (1.1M), Evan Giia (956k) and Wes Mills (230k) along with the crypto-native project Tools FML.

Stated another way - we've really found a way to connect with artists and get their music onchain.

The challenge for Coop Records now is actually far less about supply (we have releases booked out every day through mid-July) and far more about demand.

We're seeing mints scale back a bit as Layer3 paused their Creator Economy quests (the main driver of our mints last month) with our main attention and marketing being pointed towards Boost and the Coop Records Inbox.

A look at our cumulative mints from the Coop Records Dune Dashboard.

The reality is - we need to do a better job at building a core community that is passionate about collecting Coop Records music.

Right now, we're very reliant on onchain ads in the form of Boosts and Quests to drive mints. This is all good and well when it's working - but it's exposed a dependency that we need to be better about.

There was a great convo about this on Farcaster this week - and the need for us to better vocalize and bulid this reality is becoming more and more obvious each day.

We need to focus less on the numbers - and more on the strength of our core collectors. Right now our collectors are too heavily dominated by incentives - and we have yet to solve the core reason why someone wants to collect our music for a sense of status or belonging in our world.

We're starting to answer these questions with a new Coop Records product - and are looking to expand our engineering team to help with this pursuit. If you are or know of any founding engineers looking to get in on the ground floor - reply to this cast!

Last but not least - Midnight Diner II is coming back to LA next week. It features two Coop Records artists who have been extremely consistent in their onchain release schedule and a lot of changes from our last event based on community feedback.

These events are our way of connecting the onchain community with the LA electronic music community so we strongly recommending coming out and meeting some new people and enjoying some great music along the way!
