Curation on Coop Records is going up a notch.
The quality of onchain music has never been higher - and we're doubling down on this with an even more curated release schedule in the coming weeks and months.
On average - Coop Records releases about 10 new tracks a week. We'll be looking to cut that back to 5-7 releases in the immediate short term to really optimize for songs worth collecting and making sure that artists are all having a positive experience with the amount of income they're making per drop.
In case you missed it - we recently launched our own protocol a few weeks back. One of the biggest changes of this was cutting our mint price in half - from ~$1.50 to ~$0.75 today. We believe that making collecting as affordable as possible is essentially to scaling the social dynamics and removing barriers to entry. However - in the short term this means that the amount of revenue artists are earning per drop is definitely seeing a slight decline prior to before.
There are a very finite amount of crypto-natives willing to collect music on a recurring basis, and we're starting to notice a clear ceiling in terms of the potential users we can reach through our questing partners.
Having said that - this has really spurred us to double down on optimizing our mobile experience, all geared at the goal of getting our app to a point where real music fans can buy songs without knowing anything about crypto. We believe this is the first step in a much bigger conversation of understanding what motivates a fan to want to collect - and giving them an opportunity to use the product without getting blocked at the start because they don't know or care about ETH, wallets, L2s or any of the jargon that crypto people has accepted as a new normal.
Tying it all together - the artists on Coop Records are really coming into their own and we couldn't be more stoked to be working with them. We'll be seeing Swimming Paul play a sold out show in LA tonight followed by Beyond Wonderland on Saturday where we have ~10 different Coop Recs acts performing to more than 25,000 people.
Safe to say - the problem to solve is not great music. That's an area we feel increasingly confident. The problem to solve is the same as its always been - distribution.
The wider the net can be cast, the more artists we can onboard and the bigger the surface area for potential fans. We understand this is a process, and we're taking shots on goal every week.
So thanks for sticking with us - if you're reading this, you're amongst the earliest cohort of collectors giving Coop Records a real chance to shine!
