I’ve been experimenting with Web3 publishing since 2021 as the space has matured and the technology has evolved. Now those experiments have blossomed into a next-generation ebook format called the TokenBook.
TokenBooks combine decentralized storage networks, privacy-guarding encryption, censorship- and piracy-resistant blockchains, and audited smart-contracts to enable innovative features and reading experiences. Where heritage ebooks offer ephemeral content licensed to a single device, TokenBooks offer adaptable and enduring digital heirlooms.
Week by week, you can build your TokenBook library.
Moby-Dick
The first release was Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. This was the first in the Reader TokenBook collection on Polygon, which focuses on accessibility and value.
The Moby-Dick TokenBook can be minted at https://cryptoversalbooks.io/moby-dick.
Carmilla
Last week, Ye Olde Cryptoversal Minting Press released Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fenu (1872), one of the earliest vampire stories in the English language and a must-read for all fans of the vampire genre.
Carmilla was chosen as a book that was influential to genre fiction, written by an author who was well-loved in his time, but which has since been overshadowed and obscured. This is a prime example of an underappreciated book that deserves to be resurfaced and placed under the spotlight.
Carmilla was the first release in the Premium TokenBook Collection, which offers extra features, content, and innovation. This series mints in a limited quantity on Ethereum for optimum appeal to collectors.
Carmilla is the story that inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula. In honor of that connection, this version of the "Cryptoversal Carmilla" includes a posthumously published short story by Bram Stoker, "Dracula's Guest" (1914), which scholars believe to be the lost first chapter of Dracula, featuring a vampiric encounter in the setting of Carmilla.
Also included as a bonus is “ELOPE” (2022) from the NIGHTfall Storyline of Cryptoversal’s Wordler Village. Set in a modern Transylvania, ELOPE brings Wordler Village into continuity with both Carmilla and Dracula. Originally minted as a Story Vignette on the Cent Pages platform. The original story grants co-author rights in the original Wordler Village character of Magnus the Vampire.
This Premium TokenBook on Ethereum includes a downloadable book in PDF and ePUB formats, Cover Art, PFP Art, and Wallpaper Art.
Carmilla can be minted at https://cryptoversalbooks.io/carmilla
What’s Next?
This week’s TokenBook Tuesday will see yet another monster release in the form of our first cross-chain TokenBook, a simultaneous release on Ethereum and Polygon.
Tune in tomorrow to find out what this week’s title will be.
