As Farcaster gains traction in the cryptocurrency world, the risk of scams and the sharing of fraudulent links, both on and off the platform, increases.
For instance, I stumbled upon a counterfeit Zora bridge link while searching for Zora Bridge online, which raised concerns about preventing such occurrences on the Farcaster network now and in the future. How can we start protecting users from malicious entities like these?
To address this, @downshift and I had the idea to develop a simple bot or action on Warpcast that verifies the safety of links. For example, if a link is posted in a cast, users could type "?safe" to initiate a safety check to confirm the link's legitimacy and security.
Various verification methods could be used, starting with a curated panel of experienced users who maintain a list of verified URLs, a 'link jury.'
This panel would determine the safety of links and update the database used by the bot or action.
Future enhancements could include, but are not limited to:
1. A DNS check to verify recent changes in DNS settings.
2. Utilizing tools like basescan and incorporating community flags for broader verification.
We believe this initiative could help Farcaster become a safer platform in the future.
Currently we are in the early stages of developing such a tool that is but not limited to shared links but also extends to fake profiles, scammers and more.
We are looking to collaborate with others interested in developing this project.
We just started discussing this idea with several individuals on Farcaster to see the interest and gather feedback.
Some heavyweights on Farcaster already joined our project in some capacity: @bleu.eth, @downshift.eth, @mvr and @sayangel
The idea is simple, the execution is not.
Thanks!
