After the approval to reimburse ENS Labs for the legal fees incurred in protecting possession of eth.link, this executable proposal seeks to reimburse ENS Labs and fund the settlement amount of 300k.

2. [Social] Confirming the ENS DAO Security Council

Ahead of the vote to deploy the veto contract giving Canceller role to a multisig controlled by the security council, a social proposal will list and confirm these members for DAO approval. Ensuring availability and secure practices of signers is critical. A balanced 4/8 multisig threshold is recommended.

ENS Labs Updates

ENS Stats: June 2024

In June 2024, the ENS Protocol registered 20.1k new .eth domains, bringing the total to 2.045 million. The protocol generated revenue of 986k USD equivalent during this period, all of which were allocated to the ENS DAO. The number of Ethereum account holders with at least one ENS name increased by 15.8k, totaling 886k. There were 14.3k primary ENS names set, making the overall count 865k. Additionally, 5k new avatar records were created, reaching a cumulative total of 179k. — 1

ENS Labs Announces ENSV2

ENS Labs has announced plans for the ENSV2 upgrade, aiming to enhance decentralization, reduce gas costs, and improve multi-chain interoperability. The new hierarchical registry system will offer better control and customization for users. ENS encourages community feedback to shape this next generation of their service. ‘Decentralized Web’ Documentation Now Live

Luc.eth has announced the launch of a new “Decentralized Web” documentation page, which is the beginning of the dWeb section on the ENS Docs site. This draft document provides an introduction to hosting a decentralized website using ENS. Luc.eth is seeking feedback and suggestions from the community to improve the content. ENS Subgraph Migration

The ENS subgraph has successfully migrated to The Graph Network, enabling ENS to seamlessly pull and display onchain data on ens.domains in a decentralized manner. The ENS subgraph organizes data, including directories of ENS domains, ownership records, resolver addresses, and more. This integration enhances data accessibility and efficiency for ENS users. ENS Labs at ETHGlobal Brussels

ENS will be present at ETHGlobal in Brussels! Builders are encouraged to utilize the ENS Protocol as part of their developer stack at the Hackathon, held from July 12 to 14. The ENS DAO Ecosystem Working Group is supporting the Hackathon with a $10k sponsorship in prize money. Details will be available soon on the ETHGlobal Brussels site. — 06.04.24

ENS Announces ENSv2 Project Plan: A Future Path for Naming

ENS has introduced the ENSv2 Project Plan, outlining detailed phases for the next generation of ENS. The plan aims to extend ENS to Layer 2, redesigning the protocol’s architecture from the ground up to final implementation. It is divided into five phases and includes a comprehensive technical design document and FAQ.

Integrating ENS into Daily Internet Use: A Presentation by Pavel Losev

Pavel Losev from ENS Labs presented “Bringing ENS to Daily Internet Use” at the Swarm Summit. The presentation highlighted how ENS-powered websites can be natively integrated into computers without requiring gateways, enhancing user experience and security. ENSv2: Addressing Community Concerns

Namespace’s Plugin for web3.js Hits 440 Downloads in Two Months

Namespace announced their ENS plugin for web3.js has been downloaded approximately 440 times in just two months. The plugin facilitates ENS registrations, record management, and resolution. Interface Adds Support for Farcaster Identities

Interface announced support for Farcaster identities, following Farcaster’s migration to ENS subdomains for improved UX and ecosystem composability. ENS subdomains are stored offchain, enhancing user experience and broader composability. Interface now fully supports these features. — 06.19.24

VisionUpdate: Enhanced Social Features on Vision Profiles

Vision has rolled out an update enhancing the social features on Vision profiles. Users can now easily display their social media, email, and website links by setting their records. Profiles can include a bio or description displayed prominently above these buttons. Check out the new features and set up your profile to show off your unique style. ENS on Base: Namespace’s New Open-Source Standards

Vitalik.eth Highlights ENS in New Article

Vitalik.eth posted a new article emphasizing the importance of ENS in Web3 as the most useful and important NFTs. He discusses the necessity of Ethereum’s slot-and-epoch architecture for applications like ENS and keystores. While a 12-second block time suffices for some applications, others require this specific architecture. The three types of “slots” in this context are:

  1. An Ethereum-native slot-and-epoch architecture

  2. Server preconfirmations

  3. Committee preconfirmations

New Optimistic Fault Proof Gateway Launched

Clowes.eth announced the launch of the Optimistic Fault Proof gateway at op-gateway.unruggable.com. The gateway runs a flexible virtual machine for proving L2 state on L1. Documentation will be available soon. Users can try resolving using the gateway at opdemo.eth. — 07.01.24

Steve (@NFTbark) announced that ENS Domains is now a sponsor of the “Coffee with Captain” podcast. Proposal to Move ENS Community to Console.xyz

@Castig has proposed transitioning the ENS community from Discord to Console.xyz. This new platform offers ENS and SIWE identity verification, group chat, live video and audio spaces, and event pages. Key benefits include converting Twitter followers into emails to build a direct relationship owned by the ENS DAO, 100% native ENS user verification, and capabilities to securely read onchain data and issue BASE loyalty NFTs. Console.xyz, which supports ENS domains natively and aligns with Web3 principles, aims to enhance the ENS ecosystem. Meta-Governance is seeking funding to support DAO-wide operations, including Working Groups, treasury management, and governance initiatives. This request aligns with Rule 10.1.1 of the Working Group Rules, and amendments introduced in EP 4.8, and includes vesting contracts as per EP 5.8.

[5.10][Social] Confirming the ENS DAO Security Council Members

Following EP5.7’s approval, this proposal confirms 8 Security Council members to protect ENS from governance attacks by canceling malicious proposals. The council operates under a 4/8 multisig configuration and has a 2-year veto power. A For/Against/Abstain vote will confirm the members, with a quorum of 1 million votes needed.

Meta-Governance Project Presentations

Corina Pascu Demos Dhive.io: The Next Governance Data Tool

Corina Pascu recently demoed Dhive.io, a promising new tool for aggregating onchain and offchain governance data, aimed at simplifying information for regular users. Dhive.io has officially indexed ENS data and offers a popular feature that allows users to subscribe to DAO updates through a decentralized push notification protocol.

Agora Updates

Kent Fenwick presented two proposals for feedback before a temp check. The first aimed to simplify proposal sponsorship (Watch video and test). The second proposed lower thresholds for proposal creation via bonds (Read more). Efforts with Coinbase to free up hardware-stored ENS for voting continue.

DAO Bylaws Process Update

The Meta-Governance Working Group decided to adjourn the Bylaws process and reorient its approach. Alex Urbelis, ENS Labs’ general counsel, will help create a cohesive framework focusing on defined aspects of DAO governance. Open Kanban Board

@estmcmxci initiated a discussion using a Kanban board to showcase various initiatives and their current status within the ENS DAO Meta-Governance. The goal is to establish a cadence for scheduling key events and steward changeovers.

    ENS Labs has implemented a subgraph used to track records set to names, sub-names, and other data points. A rate limit has recently been added, so users are encouraged to sign up for a new API key to avoid errors.

  1. Project Highlights by @hidayath.eth
    hidayath.eth presented, WebHash, a project which tokenizes decentralized websites for ENS and DNS domains. Create subdomains and add records via the UI, with support from Resolver Works. Tokenize websites on IPFS, transfer ownership, and view on OpenSea.

Service Provider Updates

  1. Namespace (@cap)
    Namespace is now offering free minting of subnames on Base through base.namespace.tech. The platform allows users to mint from a variety of subnames, add records, and mint fully functional ENS names. The project is currently hosted on GitHub and plans to launch on other Layer 2 solutions. Additionally, Namespace has developed the ENS Namespace Plugin, which is nearing 500 downloads.

  2. Resolver Works (@slobo.eth)
    Resolver Works introduced ENSPro.xyz for personal, gasless subname management. Add, edit, and remove subnames without gas fees using an offchain resolver. Retains text records and supports multiple subnames per ETH address.

The Public Goods Working Group supports the greater Ethereum ecosystem by identfying and funding open-source development.

ENS DAO Q3 2024 Large Grants Launch

The ENS DAO Public Goods Working Group has launched the Q3 2024 Large Grants, offering up to 300k USDC for Ethereum and Web3 public goods projects. Awards range from 12k to 50k USDC. Applications are open until July 18th on Questbook. For more details, visit the discussion post. — 06.17.24

EthMexico Update by Bricia Guzman

Rotki: Open-Source Portfolio Manager
