ETHChicagoans,
The past month has brought about a series of unexpected surprises, including last minute ETH ETF approvals by the SEC and crypto suddenly becoming a hot button issue on the campaign trail. The mainstreaming of BTC and ETH via ETFs is a significant development for the asset class, as we now have alignment between regulators regarding the commodity status of the biggest two crypto assets. In the Ethereum community, thought leaders are now scrambling to describe ETH in a way that is palatable to Wall Street asset managers. This is a narrative game that is likely to continue evolving as public understanding of what these assets and their underlying networks enable matures.
On the technical front, the Ethereum developer community continues to expand scalability solutions with the introduction of based rollups. Introduced by Ethereum Foundation Researcher Justin Drake, based rollups allow ETH mainnet block builders and proposers to sequence layer-2 transactions, thereby inheriting the liveness and decentralization of the Ethereum layer-1. Projects such as Taiko have recently launched, providing based rollup solutions to developers. We will be exploring this subject more in-depth soon.
