Project Updates
Gaia Launches First-Ever AI Agent-Powered Hackathon
Gaia is breaking new ground with its upcoming Autonomous Hackathon, the first hackathon where AI agents will independently manage core organizational functions. Set for December 9-13, this virtual event will demonstrate how autonomous systems can handle everything from challenge creation and judging to prize distribution.
The hackathon has attracted significant support from leading Web3 organizations, including Coinbase Developer Platform, EigenLayer, and Safe, among others. During this window, participants will work on developing innovative solutions in areas such as digital twins, agent-to-agent interactions, and decentralized AI systems.
What sets this hackathon apart is its unique autonomous management structure: the event will utilize specialized AI agents to publish challenges on Bountycaster, evaluate submissions using predefined criteria, and execute reward distributions. This practical demonstration showcases the potential of autonomous systems in managing complex, multi-stakeholder events.
Registrations opened on November 28, with the main event running from December 9-13, culminating in a Demo Day. Furthermore, participants will have access to workshops and technical resources throughout the event.
For complete details about the hackathon structure, judging criteria, and registration process, visit Gaia's Autonomous Hackathon event page.
Gaia Partners with Chainbase to Enhance AI Data Integration
Gaia and Chainbase have joined forces to integrate real-time blockchain data into AI systems. This collaboration connects Gaia's open-source AI infrastructure with Chainbase's Manuscripts data processing framework, enabling developers to create AI agents that can process and respond to on-chain events. In particular, the integration allows for enhanced decision-making capabilities across various sectors, including finance, gaming, and scientific applications.
Key technical features include seamless API integration between Gaia's models and Chainbase's omnichain data pipelines, allowing AI agents to dynamically respond to blockchain events such as token movements and smart contract interactions. This partnership kicked off with a successful workshop at the Gaia Hacker House during Devcon Bangkok, demonstrating practical applications of on-chain AI solutions.
To learn more about the technical details and upcoming developer initiatives, read the full integration announcement on their blog.
Gaia Teams Up with InfStones to Enhance AI Node Infrastructure
Gaia has partnered with InfStones, a blockchain node infrastructure management platform, to streamline the deployment and management of AI nodes across its decentralized network. This technical integration focuses on three key improvements:
optimized node infrastructure for enhanced computing power
one-click node deployment to simplify network participation
advanced traffic management for domain nodes.
The collaboration enables users to easily set up and manage Gaia inference nodes through InfStones' infrastructure, reducing technical barriers while maintaining network security and performance. This infrastructure upgrade supports Gaia's growing network of AI agents with improved stability and responsiveness, ensuring consistent operation across the decentralized ecosystem.

Content Highlight: Balancing Innovation with Responsibility
In a recent interview on the Passage to Profit Show on iHeartRadio, Gaia CEO Matt Wright shared insights on the evolving landscape of AI and its impact on the future of work. Wright emphasized the importance of creating open, transparent systems where individuals can maintain control of their data while monetizing it effectively.
Key discussion points included:
The evolution toward "living knowledge systems" as an alternative to centralized AI solutions
The transformation of workforce dynamics, where everyone becomes "managers" of AI tools
The intersection of blockchain technology with AI in creating verifiable digital works
The critical need for balanced regulation and oversight in AI development
Wright's perspective highlighted the delicate balance between open-source innovation and responsible development, emphasizing the need for thoughtful regulation without stifling progress. He envisions a future where AI serves as a collaborative tool, helping filter digital noise while enhancing human capabilities across industries.

Redefining Autonomous Applications and Trust
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News in the Philippines, Gaia Co-Founder Sydney Lai showcased her knowledge about the evolution of AI agents and their impact on distributed computing. During this session, Lai explained AI agents as "autonomous applications" while emphasizing the importance of community-driven development and trust in decentralized systems.
Key highlights from the discussion included:
The practical application of specialized AI in education, showcasing how a partner university leveraged 20 years of self-driving car research data
A forward-looking perspective on "unbanked agents" and their potential to streamline everyday transactions
The critical role of trust in AI adoption, supported by both community engagement and mathematical proofs
Gaia's approach to making AI development more accessible through simplified four-line code implementations
Furthermore, Lai's vision for the future emphasizes the importance of distributed computing over AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), focusing on empowering individuals to build applications with their own datasets while maintaining control over their identity.
Watch the full interview above to learn more about Gaia's perspective on the future of autonomous systems and decentralized AI development.
