When I first heard about gaming with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in late 2021, I was highly sceptical. I didn't understand the value proposition, nor did I see any practical use cases. However, that all changed when I stumbled upon Axie Infinity, a blockchain-based game that leverages the power of cryptocurrency to create a truly unique gaming experience.
My initial curiosity about Axie Infinity was piqued when I heard about a scholarship program for new players. I was intrigued by the idea of a scholarship program in the context of a gaming platform, and so I did some research to learn more about it. I was impressed by what I found - a vibrant community of players who were passionate about the game and the technology, and a company that was dedicated to creating a new and innovative gaming experience. I was floored by how much potential I have missed when I held on the position that the technology is just a hyped scam.
As I dove deeper into the world of Axie Infinity, I soon discovered the BigYak Axie Club, an amazing community of players who were eager to help new players like myself get started in becoming a collector. Through the Club, I was able to connect with players from all over the world, learn about the game, and get involved in all sorts of activities, from battles to breeding, and collecting BigYaks.
However, my journey into the world of cryptocurrency was not without its challenges. During my time playing Axie Infinity, I experienced my first bear market, where the value of cryptocurrency plummeted. Player count dropped significantly and a lot of people who were overexposed got burned. Despite this, I held onto my investments (money, time, emotion) and continued to play and engage with the community. I went to explore other games and communities eager to find what makes them tick.
Recently, I got in early with The Beacon, a new blockchain-based game that is organically growing by launching a fun and nostalgic roguelike game. As someone who has been involved in the world of web3 for a while now, I have a unique perspective on the potential of these types of games, and I am excited to see where The Beacon will take the industry in the years to come.
My journey into web3 has been a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. However, through it all, I have learned valuable lessons about the importance of community, the power of technology, and the potential of blockchain-based games to create new and innovative experiences. I am excited to see where this journey will take me next, and I am eager to continue learning and exploring the world of web3.
