Flarnchain - Newsletter #140 - New Format

An ocean of knowledge, one inch deep

an ocean of knowledge, one inch deep

Welcome to the Flarnchain newsletter! I'm trying something new this week because I've been dealing with rate limiting from sending this via gmail. As I continue to sort out a more professional or systematic/permanent approach to deploying this newsletter, I've decided to branch out and explore other free avenues for deploying this newsletter each and every week, like an atomic clock.

Gmail has a soft limit of 200 emails, and if you gradually increase your email list, the number of emails can increase to potentially up to 300. This newsletter has over 300 subscribers, so people haven't been receiving the newsletter recently. I'm trying this platform out for a couple of weeks, and if it works well, it might be a good one for phase 2, because you can technically issue a cryptocurrency directly off this platform. I'm pretty sure it would be an ERC-20 token, which means it would live on the Ethereum blockchain and basically be cost-prohibitive to use, but it would be an interesting experiment for the future when Flarncoins are living on multiple blockchains and after the Flarnchain blockchain comes into existence... will Flarncoins that live on different blockchains have different market values? Or will they reach equilibrium due to arbitrage? One way for equilibrium to be reached is if Flarncoins are worth exactly $0 USD...

Anyways, I'm getting this newsletter started pretty late, so I'm just going to blast through it real quick. Here's the weekly market chart:

Markets are looking pretty gnarly right now. Atom is down 50% on the year. A couple weeks ago my dad, who reads this newsletter frequently, commented that it's kind of weird that this chart starts on February instead of January 1. While I agree with that sentiment... The newsletter started on Feb 10, 2021, so I've been treating that as sort of the first day of the Flarnchain calendar. Blockchains are borderless communities, that essentially get to set their own rules about reality. Blockchains issue money, they have their own internal clock. They essentially set their own physics in a digital reality. So with Flarnchain, the first day of the year is always around the end of January / beginning of February.

Alright, enough of that, let's get to the market animal. This week's market animal is a 🐻🐻🐻 BEAR 🐻🐻🐻. If you are wondering how I made those bear emojis, all you gotta do to pull up emojis when typing is press "windows key + ." (that's a period). It pulls up a nice menu for placing emojis, that you can navigate with the arrow keys on your keyboard. Pretty cool. I think I mentioned this last week. Anyways, I drew a picture of a bear tonight for this weeks' market animal:

I drew this bear in a hurry, but to be honest... UI like how it turned out!

No other big news this week. I'm still making progress on learning stuff about programming. I've been applying a lot of what I've learned in programming to my current day job, which is currently incredibly busy right now. It's a big reason why I haven't been able to dedicate a lot of time to this newsletter recently. This is a frequent excuse I give, but I come by it honestly.

For those of you who are new here (since ideally this newsletter will actually reach your inbox), here's the flarnmap. It's the 12 year plan for flarnchain. Each square represents a year. Each column (color) represents a phase. We are currently in phase 1 (discovery). We will be in phase 2 (implementation) soon

This is the flarnmap. The red arrow points to today's date. Each little black blob is a Wednesday, beginning at the top left with Wednesday February 10, 2021. due to the relentless and unstoppable march of time, we will make it all the way to the end of the flarnmap, which ends on January 19, 2033. Not sure why it's January 19... that doesn't make a whole lot of sense come to think of it. Leap years must really mess up my calendar. And I guess the fact that the year always has to begin on a Wednesday throws things off considerably. I'd like to visit this topic again in the future.

Okay folks, that's about all for tonight. If you read this far, thanks for reading! If this is your first time reading this, I appreciate you being patient with me while I sorted out my rate limiting. Also, I think that technically this entire newsletter is an NFT that you can "mint" on a blockchain. I don't actually fully understand what that's all about, but after reading the docs for this platform (paragraph.xyz) it's actually pretty darn cool and I'm very excited to be giving it a test run.

Until next week!

Cheers!

NFT showcase

pixel birds - the developer who created this project is building a video game around these simple little pixel bird drawings, and basically, all you need is to hold one of these to play to the game. I think they cost like 100 STARS tokens, which is less than $1. Pretty cool and that's the type of stuff I'm interested in doing as well with Flarnchain.
