Welcome to Farcaster 101, a 12 part educational series designed to introduce marketing professionals to the fundamentals of Farcaster. Presented by GM Farcaster in partnership with Snickerdoodle, this series will help you understand what makes Farcaster unique and how to grow your brand presence on the platform. Each webinar is accompanied by a blog post summarizing key insights and additional resources. Plus, we offer weekly office hours for personalized support.
In the second module of Farcaster 101, we walked you through creating your Farcaster account, getting familiar with the Warpcast UI, and sending your first cast - Farcaster's version of a post. Let's get started!
To create your Farcaster account, you’ll need to use the Warpcast app, available for both iOS and Android. Here’s how:
Download the app: Visit farcaster.xyz or warpcast.com and follow the link to the app store to download Warpcast.
Create a new account: Once you’ve installed the app, open it and select "Create New Account."
Verify your email: Enter your email and verify it using the link sent to your inbox.
Pay the protocol fee: You’ll be prompted to pay a small protocol fee (around $3) that supports your on-chain account. This is an annual fee that covers your data storage on the protocol.
Choose a username: Be thoughtful—you cannot change your username later except through ENS.
Set up a passkey: Farcaster uses passkeys instead of traditional passwords for enhanced security. Use your device’s Face ID or another biometric method to secure your account.
Follow along with this video:
Congratulations! You now have an official Farcaster account.
Once your account is set up using the mobile app, you can continue on the app or switch to a desktop. If you switch to desktop like we did in the webinar, the first thing you'll need to do is log in using your mobile device.
We then walk you through the main settings of features of Warpcast:
Home Feed: Your feed is curated based on the topics you selected during setup.
Social Graph: Start building your social graph by following other Farcasters. Warpcast will recommend users to follow based on your interests.
Profile Page: Where you can customize your bio, display name, and profile picture (PFP).
Notifications: Enable notifications for mentions, new followers, direct casts (private messages), and more, so you don’t miss any important updates.
Link Your Wallet: Farcaster allows you to link your crypto wallet, like an Ethereum or Solana wallet, for direct payments, NFT minting, and more.
Channels: Topic-based communities where members share content around shared interests like fitness, memes, or entrepreneurship. Anyone can follow any channel, but only members can cast into channels.
Warps: Warpcast's in-app currency used to create channels and tip users. 1 Warp = 0.01 USD.
Your first cast is a major milestone! Here’s how to do it:
Navigate to the Create Cast section and type your message.
You can tag other users, add emojis, and even post into specific channels once you become a member.
Click Cast to send it out to the Farcaster universe!
Your first cast will now appear in your profile, and you’ll start receiving engagement from other users. Don’t forget to follow us, tag us (@nounishprof and @adrienne), and say hello—we love hearing from new Farcasters!
Now that you’ve set up your account and sent your first cast, keep exploring. Use Warpcast’s Explore tab to find more people and channels to follow. You can also try out features like warps—Farcaster’s in-app currency for creating channels and tipping users.
In the next module, we’ll dive deeper into frames, additional apps within Farcaster that allow you to extend the platform’s functionality.
In the meantime, here are some additional learning resources and materials for you to check out, and don’t hesitate to join our office hours to ask questions.
