This past week was a busy one in our game development. We made significant strides in several areas, with two major zone rebuilds, extensive enemy spawning tests, and the introduction of strategies for energy replenishing for players. Here's a detailed report of what we've been up to.
Zone Rebuilds
The first major task we undertook this week was the rebuilding of two zones. These zones are integral parts of our game world and were due for an overhaul. Our artists and developers worked tirelessly to make these zones immersive and challenging for our players, improving both visual aesthetics and gameplay mechanics. We believe that these changes will significantly enhance the player’s gaming experience. We have for demo a Train station and a Soup factory to date which have spinning turbines, vats of piping hot pea soup to fall into and crash trains as well as speeding trains to avoid as you navigate the aliens spawning in front of you in waves.
Enemy Spawning Tests
We also conducted a series of enemy spawning tests. The idea was to test our algorithms that determine when and where enemies spawn within the game. By tweaking and testing these algorithms, we aim to ensure that the game is balanced and provides a fair but challenging experience for every player that increases as your play time progresses and your skill levels improve.
Item Pickups
Another important aspect we worked on this week was item pickups. We introduced new items that players can find and use within the game. Each of these items has unique properties and effects overall health and point system, and finding them adds another layer of excitement to the game. We are eager to see how players use these items to their advantage. Do you eat the food for energy/stamina or do you use it to fend off another wave of aliens? challenge accepted.
Energy Replenishing Strategies
The final major update of the week revolves around energy replenishing strategies. We understand that maintaining energy levels is a vital part of the game, and we've implemented new methods for players to replenish their energy. These strategies will allow players to stay active and involved in the game longer, making for an even more engaging gaming experience. We're about to embark on a new wave of development with tokenised integrations for rewards in the demo level. This will only likely be on testnet for the time being, but will allow us time to refine the allocation of reward tokens during playtests and balance the tokenomics futher.
We're excited about these updates and look forward to seeing how they impact the game. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to refine and expand our game world.
Weapon model texture painting
The teams evenings/afternoons have been full of Twitter spaces, Telegram mental health spaces and 3D modelling for fun. Among these challenges was the creation of the painterly style for initial round of weapons available to our characters in the MVP demo level. From our previously sketched Burgzooka and Soda Can Grenade to the recently overhauls Alien 'Lance Beam' the characters may stumble upon as the explore the demo level. Below are some early renditions of these models in development.
Boom Soda!
Bang and you're enemy is gone! We've adopted a painterly effect here to add depth and textures to a low poly mesh to enhance the look of the game. As we're testing out our mechanics and demo gameplay in Spatial, we need to be mindful of the total polycount available to us for the purposes of a deployment.. 500k total count with a limit on texture maps too. So painting on top of a simply mesh, bring a certain charm and depth to the visual style whilst remaining within our polygon budget.
Burgzooka for the win!
Our burger launching cannon has had a bit of a rethink. It now has a top loading mesh like a McDonalds (Other fast food chains are available) Fries basket. We've painted some Shillarkis alien goo splats and a kill count for added effect. Splat those bugs, stale burgers may give them a sting, but the hollandaise sauce with have them writhing in agony! hah!
Shillarkis Lance Beam
This one is an early stage render of the Lance beam that is an early pickup for each Hangry in the demo level. It fires circular rings of energy towards your opponent and is a great rapid fire tool to get the job done and stock up on Tarbal Crystals. We can't wait to unleash this weapon in the game, it's gona be so much fun.
Build him, and they win mint
CHET has been with us since day one. His storyline and involvement in the Hangry lore will be legendary. through the Comics and animated series. But importantly as part of the CHET pass perks, available to all holders of this membership pass, is a 3D avatar of our beloved Mr DoGood, to animate, pose, and share with the world however you see fit. Below is the beginnings of CHETs low poly mesh for the game. You as holders of the CHET will be able to play as CHET in the game, no one else will be able to do so. This 3D avatar will also be available for you as a wearable skin in Spatial and any other metaverse you wish to participate in. Behold the birth of CHET DoGood in front of your very eyes.
Thanks for reading and we hope you love the direction we're heading with everything to date. #letsgethangry
Help us spread the word
Our socials are vibin and our drive now is on promoting the CHET NFTs in spaces and at upcoming conferences to raise a small pot of development cash to progress the recruitment of more game devs and community members. So let's share the love, promote the benefits of a CHET pass to everyone you know and let's get those 1000 CHETs for the genesis mint passes snapped up. CHET pass benefits include:
The CHET is redeemable for a Hangry Animal NFT (during our pre-sale) on mint day.
It also grants the holder a unique skin for the 3D character that is a special armour piece - not available via main mint only CHET pass holders will get dropped the skin.
3D rigged posable asset post mint for usage inside and outside of our games with IP ownership for you the holder to use freely.
Custom dynamic trait illustrated by our founder artist @andrewminton which will be added to your NFT wallet as a special gift to early holders.
If folks can help us push and reach more people with proof, we have $FOOD tokens all ready to distribute. Drop your proof of social in the Discord #Food-Proof channel and we will reward you with some tasty future value $FOOD tokens through our social efforts.
