Hangry Animals - Our Hybrid Third-Person Shooter & RPG

Welcome as always to the exciting world of Hangry Animals. As we listen to feedback from our peers and stratergise the type of game we're excited to play, our forthcoming game demo now aims to seamlessly blend the intense action of a Third-person shooter (TPS) we've been teasing as our PvE with the deep, engaging elements of role-playing games (RPG). In this article, we'll take you through the key features of our game demo, highlight our ambitious vision, and provide a glimpse into what players can expect from this Hangry hybrid experience.

Our Vision

At its core, Hangry Animals is being designed to deliver a balanced mix of fast-paced combat and immersive quest-driven game play shaped by an intergalactic story of hope and coping with change. Our goal is to create a game that not only tests your reflexes and shooting skills but also engages your strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities for good causes. We want players to experience the excitement of high-octane battles as you take on a mix of fearless foes, while also enjoying the depth and richness of RPG-style quests, pickups, unlocks and NPC interactions. Our game demo is a shooter experience that showcases the kind of battles players will encounter throughout the games story. We also are able to showcase the kinds of rich items of weapon and health pickups scattered throughout the 'training level' in the Soup Factory for all to enjoy.

The TPS Experience

The TPS aspect of Hangry Animals focuses on delivering adrenaline-pumping action. Players will find themselves in the midst of intense battles, armed with a variety of weapons and facing off against formidable opponents from outer space. The combat mechanics are designed to be smooth and responsive, ensuring that every shot fired feels impactful and satisfying. Our aim is to create an immersive environment where players feel fully engaged in the heat of each food fight battle and climb the champions leader board.

RPG Elements

Beyond the combat, Hangry Animals incorporates several RPG elements to deepen the game play experience. Players will embark on a series of quests that range from simple tasks to complex missions requiring strategic planning and execution. As you progress, you'll encounter various non playable characters who will guide you down the right or wrong path as well as pickups and unlocks that will enhance your character's abilities, providing a sense of growth and progression throughout the game. Our storyline of humans not being the first sentient inhabitants of earth, with Aliens claiming an ancient origin to the blue planet, is one of a rich tapestry of events and history from which to draw inspiration and tangent story arcs. One which we're excited to evolve and share with our community as we progress through the stages.

Quests and Challenges

Quests in Hangry Animals are designed to offer a variety of challenges. Some quests may require straightforward combat prowess, while others will test your puzzle-solving skills or investigative research. This combination ensures that players remain engaged, entertained and also bought into the mission and beliefs of each Hangry Animal character persona they elect to play as. Each quest brings something new to the table, whether you're rescuing hostages, gathering resources, or deciphering cryptic clues, there's always a fresh hangry challenge awaiting you.

Pickups and Unlocks

One of the most rewarding aspects of Hangry Animals is the array of pickups and unlocks available throughout the game. These items range from new weapons and armor, supporting character guides, powerups and evolution potions to special abilities and enhancements. Finding and utilising these pickups effectively can make a significant difference in your game play, allowing you to tailor your approach to different situations. The sense of discovery and experimentation adds another layer of excitement to the game.

Puzzles and Exploration

In addition to combat and quests, Hangry Animals will feature a variety of puzzles that players must solve to advance. These puzzles are integrated into the game world, requiring players to explore their surroundings and think creatively to overcome obstacles. The emphasis on exploration not only enriches the game play but also contributes to building a more immersive and interactive world. Whether that be recalling specific key combinations recited to you from NPC's or combining collected items in your inventory to build unique tools to open doorways and portals, we're aiming to cater to the brawlers as well as the questers and completists among our gaming community.

Multiplayer Mode

While our primary focus is on delivering a compelling single-player experience, Hangry Animals will also feature a multiplayer mode for couch co-op fun. This allows players to team up with friends or compete against other in fast-paced, tactical battles. Multiplayer mode will include various game types, ranging from cooperative quests to competitive matches, providing a well-rounded and dynamic gaming experience for all. The Multiplayer mindset is with us, but the initial game release experience will likely start with Single player Hangry action.

Visuals and Design

The visual design of Hangry Animals is crafted to be both captivating and functional. Our environments are detailed and vibrant, bringing the game world to life while also providing clear visual cues for players. Character and enemy designs are distinct and memorable using a painterly style reminiscent of an animated cartoon (just how we like it), contributing to a unique and cohesive aesthetic. Special attention has been paid to ensure that the visuals enhance the overall game play experience without compromising performance, hence avoiding any fur shaders for the Gorilla and Bear in this roll out.

Donating Mechanics

Let's face it, donations through game play is complex, especially if we are on and off ramping digital tokens for individual non profits directly through the gaming experience. For this to work, there is going to be a load of testing implemented to achieve a balanced approach that provides value to gamers, revenue to charities and non profits as well as sustainable business model for Hangry Animals itself. Our ambition for entry fees to tournaments or sponsored prizes for gamers and the charities of their choosing is our first port of call. Our secondary driver will be the ability to release special weapons, items, armor and utilities that fetch a heavy price to purchase, but are tied to donating directly to the good causes our players wish to support. In doing so, we incentivise both camps to bring value to the premium items and bundles on offer as well as the good causes paired to these in game purchases. This mechanism is where we see the most value and revenue being attained over the long term. This in built ability to purchase and split donate with the players charity of choice as well as our own seasonal dedicated supported cause, will bring further benefits to playing and earning our in game token Tarbal. As we refine the core game play loop over the coming weeks, we'll be thinking of the opportune touch points in which to allow players to opt in to a donation or grind some more to earn it with hours played. We will find that balance no doubt.

Future Plans

As we prepare for the release of the Hangry Animals demo, we're already looking ahead to future updates and expansions once we've collated all community feedback, good and bad. Our ambition is to continuously evolve and improve the game based on player feedback and emerging trends in the gaming industry within the RPG, TPS space. We're a small team for sure, with mammoth ambitions in our heads, but equally realistic ambitions on time, budgets and skill level. We plan to introduce new quests, weapons, abilities, and possibly even new game modes to keep the experience fresh and engaging over time, but firstly let's smash this one out of the park and build something, gamers want to play.
