Tipping $DEGEN on Farcaster is fun and easy to do, but there are multiple ways to tip and each has their own eligibility requirements.

AIRDROP 2 TIPS: to receive a DEGEN POINTS allowance, you'll need 10000 $DEGEN in your associated Farcaster wallet for 48 or more hours. You also need to have made three Casts. Airdrop 2 tipping syntax is '[amount] $DEGEN'

To receive and claim tips, you only need to have a Farcaster connected wallet.

DEGEN JEEVES: First, '@degentip !create' to start a wallet, then load it with $DEGEN token. Use @degentip !tip [user] [amount] to issue $DEGEN to Farcasters.

PAYMENT BOT: Activate with '@paybot [farcaster user] [amount] degen' then approve the token transfer via the reply frame.

$DEGEN token is an ERC-20 on a Ethereum L2, Base, and the community currency of Farcaster, a sufficiently decentralized social network.

$DEGEN is Farcaster's most popular and widely used community token. Besides the usual ERC-20 applications, $DEGEN is frequently used for tipping. Tips are a reward - over and above - the usual cost. A special way to say "hey, thanks, that was great." You tip your waiter for excellent and timely service. You tip your cab driver for a safe and pleasant drive. You tip a Farcaster for great content or other exceptional contributions.

As a part of $DEGEN token's airdrop distribution, tipping is how Farcasters decide who gets to own $DEGEN and what counts as tip-worthy-content or behavior.

There are multiple ways to tip Farcasters with $DEGEN, but they break down into two groups:

• Airdrop 2 Distribution tipping (off-chain, uses DEGEN POINTS, claimable monthly)

• 3rd party bot or frame tipping (such as Jeeves or Paybot; actual $DEGEN token transfers)

$DEGEN token is being initially distributed through three planned airdrops.

• Airdrop 1 awarded early participants of Farcaster's original /degen channel.

• Airdrop 2 debuted a first-of-its-kind tipping mechanism that relies on Farcaster's permissionless social graph.

Eligible Farcasters automatically receive a daily allowance of DEGEN POINTS to tip other Farcasters with; this allocation total is determined algorithmically based on Cast engagement stats (with a special focus on recent reactions to original casts). You can find the full formula on Dune.

Farcasters with a tipping allocation can connect their wallet to degen.tips to view their total and current remaining allowance.

DEGEN POINTS are tipped whenever an eligible Farcaster uses the following syntax in a reply:

[amount] $DEGEN

In each example, [amount] is followed by $DEGEN or $degen. You may include other text and characters in your reply, as well.

Some time after your tip reply cast, you will receive a reply from @degentokenbase on Farcaster.

We recommend following @degentokenbase.

@degentokenbase is the official tipping bot for the $DEGEN project. Tipping confirmation response time varies.

Depending on Farcaster stability, official degen tip bot confirmations may be delayed by a few hours up to an entire day (sometimes even longer). Be patient.

Airdrop 2 token distribution has multiple seasons. Season 1 concluded at the end of February 2024. Season 2 began immediately and is presently underway.

Airdrop 2 Season 2 (AD2S2) refined the tipping mechanism and introduced new eligibility requirements.

✅ In order to receive tips, claimable monthly, you only need to have a Farcaster connected wallet, and wait 24 - 48 hours for the change to propagate.

✅ To receive a tipping allowance (ie, to be able to tip other Farcaster users):

• Must have made a minimum of three casts on Farcaster.

• Must have a Farcaster connected wallet.

• Must have 10000 $DEGEN or more in the Farcaster connected wallet.

• Must have waited 48 hours after the above conditions are met.

Tipped DEGEN POINTS can be claimed at the end of each month. The claim period for AD2S1 began February 29th and will conclude at the end of March, in time for the next claim period.

To claim your DEGEN POINTS for actual on-chain $DEGEN token, simply visit https://degen.tips, and connect your Farcaster wallet. On the Airdrop 2 claim page, you will see an option to "Claim Your $DEGEN". Click that and follow the wallet prompts to claim.

1 DEGEN POINT can be redeemed for 1 $DEGEN after that Season's Snapshot.

Besides off-chain DEGEN POINTS tipping, Farcasters are entitled to use any $DEGEN powered tipping bot to transfer any amount of $DEGEN quickly and safely to another Farcaster's connected wallet. At present, there are two reliable $DEGEN tipping bots:

• DEGEN JEEVES, the $DEGEN tipping butler (by @matthewfox)

• PAYMENT BOT (by @robrecht), for sending USDC, ETH, or $DEGEN

DEGEN JEEVES is a multipurpose Farcaster bot that can mint NFTs and transfer $DEGEN token via typed command or frame.

To use Jeeves, first you need to create your JEEVES WALLET on Base network:

@degentip !create

This command will create your on-chain JEEVES WALLET. This wallet is separate from your Farcaster associated wallets and other wallets. It's a unique wallet for you to transfer and spend $DEGEN tokens safely and conveniently.

Upon creation, DEGEN JEEVES will reply with your new wallet address on Base network. Next, transfer some amount of $DEGEN token to that address. Once it arrives, you're ready to spend!

@degentip !balance

This command asks DEGEN JEEVES to report your current JEEVES WALLET balance.

To tip any amount from your JEEVES WALLET, use syntax:

@degentip !tip [farcaster user] [amount]

For example, if you have 20000 $DEGEN tokens in your JEEVES WALLET, you can thank Vitalik Buterin for creating Ethereum by sending him 10000 $DEGEN tokens. Thankfully, Vitalik Buterin is a Farcaster user and tipping is as easy as:

@degentip !tip @vitalik 10000

Some time after you publish your Cast, @degentip will report back with a transaction confirmation, a link to Base Scan, and your remaining DEGEN JEEVES wallet balance.

PAYMENT BOT is a single purpose money transfer bot for Farcaster. Use it to transfer some amount of ETH, USDC, or DEGEN to any Farcaster user with a connected wallet.

PAYMENT BOT transfers money via a Farcaster Transaction frame directly from your CHOSEN WALLET to the targeted Farcater user. This contrasts from DEGEN JEEVES in that respect; DEGEN JEEVES uses a tipping wallet that you have to create first. PAYMENT BOT simply uses whichever wallet you connect when you approve the transfer.

Imagine you have 100000 $DEGEN tokens in your usual crypto wallet and you want to send 10000 $DEGEN tokens to Vitalik Buterin for creating Ethereum. Simply issue this command as a Cast:

@paybot @vitalik.eth 10000 degen

After a brief wait, PAYMENT BOT will reply with an interactive transaction frame, customized to your payment parameters. Using this frame, you can connect your preferred crypto wallet (using Rainbow, Metamask, etc) to the frame and approve the token transfer.

Likewise, you can check you TXN STATUS from within that transaction frame.
