It ain't easy being cheesy

Yall.

I'm exhausted.

Once again, women are being asked to justify their existence, this time because Gigamesh (Farther buildoor) couldn't believe women could be both hot and smart enough to use Farcaster which is **checks notes** social media. He was so skeptical of their existence he singled out four women and made an example of them, implying they were either bots, Sybils, scammers, frauds, astroturfers, or something else.

The reason they caught his attention, he said, was the lack of links in their bios. And also, they post selfies, positive affirmations, and "never anything remotely controversial or weird." It's almost as if he's never spent time around a community of women!

Cryptogirls (FID 2163) who built a community for girls, popped over and vouched for these women who were minding their business and posting in a channel for girls, who she said she knew IRL. Several other folks did the same. There is a DAO behind this project. This should have been the end of it. This is where Gigamesh might have apologized said whoops, my bad, I misjudged.

But since is the internet, and more specifically crypto, the only people who can be wrong are women, and Gigamesh continued to double and triple and quadruple down on demanding these women prove their existence to internet randos. "Call me a cynic but it is harder for me to believe a bunch of cute girls without identity attestation links in their bios are posting selfies in one channel than it is to believe a handful of eastern europeans are botting tf out of the network in preparation for rugpulls."

Gigamesh, whose project is a mission to onboard people to Farcaster, rolls out a welcome mat in the shape of a big red flag.

Enter POIDH, who offered $42 USD to these women if they justified their existence to randos on Farcaster.

All's well that ends well, according to POIDH, because one of them posted a wholesome pic and claimed her $42 which is a "pretty great rate to trade for an NFT of a pic, more than plastic beads, but to each their own."

This wasn't about singling out women, I'm told, since it could also be used to single out some cryptobros posing in front of their lambos and mansions with proofs of title.

This is just demonstrating proof-of-humanity as a use case for a powerful tool that could be used to shame someone or bully them out of a social media presence, nothing to worry about.

I don't think it occurred to anyone involved here (except for the women!) that this is "decentralized" social media and if women want to post selfies and positive vibes, that's an acceptable use case which harms no one except the men who can't handle it. I mean, it's not hard to avoid interacting with accounts you find suspect - DYOR is the first rule in crypto!

No one demanded these purity tests of men like Nifty Whale, 888, or Aitso, all of whom amassed a cult like following as anons with links to nothing but their art collections and ultimately did rugpulls for millions of dollars.

Nor do I see anything in the rules that suggests girls can't feel cute and tell people about it on Farcaster.

We can all be grateful to Gigamesh and POIDH for reminding us that once again, women have good reason to stay invisible and anon.

Gigamesh, you casted "If you can convince me they're real I'll admit I was wrong." We're waiting for you to apologize as loudly as you were wrong.

And while you're at it, maybe use your large platform to highlight some women building awesome shit here. If you need some direction on where to find them, I gotchu fam.

I leave you with this gem from salawaki ā¤
