Hello friends,

I'm back with another edition of hidden gems. If you're new here, this is where I share a rundown of interesting onchain art, products, events, trends... basically anything that caught my eye over the past week.

Before getting started, I've got some important updates.

You can now subscribe to my newsletter and podcast using your credit card (CC) with HyperSub. This means you can get my NFT subscription and access all the perks using your credit card instead of crypto.

In addition, I've created 3 tiers:

  • Yearly subscription: get a ~20% discount when paid yearly.

  • Lifetime: One time payment of just 0.25 ETH... Get access to my content for life (I've been doing it for three years, and no plans to stop any time soon).

If you’ve been a Substack subscriber and have been waiting for CC payments, now is a good time to migrate. Remember, this subscription gives you access to all the perks like revenue sharing, podcast airdrops, Discord, and the recently launched Farcaster Private Group. You can read all the benefits and why I decided to move fully onchain here.

Let's get into the hidden gems...

📆 Exhibition of the Week

Eternal Tides by Phenomena, together with Galerie Met and Vivid Ordinals

"Eternal Tides" by Phenomena is a generative art project that captures the movement of ocean waves, blending natural rhythms with the Bitcoin Blockchain’s dynamic flow. Coded to reflect the evolving interplay of light and water, the piece shifts in color and form over time, drawing inspiration from the artist's personal journey of finding peace after turmoil.

What I found interesting about this particular collection (besides the impressive similarity to ocean waves) is the synergy with Bitcoin's blockchain.

Approximately every ten minutes, a new Bitcoin block generates a fresh "Data Painting."

The project was recently exhibited at the Galerie MET in Berlin, and will be auctioned through Vivid Gallery in September 18.

Each day in "Eternal Tide" gets a unique generative title, determined by its color palette and atmosphere. The number of waves is directly tied to the block size, reflecting the volume of Bitcoin transactions, while the primary colors correspond to block size, highlighting the variety of blockchain activity. The temper of the artwork shifts with average gas fees, and a wind shader, influenced by network activity, symbolizes the energetic flow and congestion within the blockchain.

📊 Chart of the Week

Onchain Social Users by Our Network

The number of on-chain social users per day keeps growing at a solid rate. Back in January, there were around 25,000 daily users across the top protocols. Today, nine months later, there are approximately 250,000 active on-chain social users.

Interestingly, OpenSocial is leading the way with about 100,000 users, followed by Farcaster with around 60,000. I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of OpenSocial before seeing this chart, so I’ve got some homework to do.

💎 Gem of the Week

Factories Series by Lassinger

I’ve been really enjoying my time on Rodeo (I had Rodeo’s cofounder on the podcast a few weeks ago—tune in here for a great overview). I’ve been busy collecting and earning plenty of referral mints—I've managed to cover about 75% of my mint costs through referrals alone. One artist who’s really stood out to me is Lassinger with his Factories series. Each piece in the collection generates four video stories, exploring different themes, all inspired by the concept of factories—sometimes set in the future, but often drawing from the past.

His two latest Factories108 and 109—are still available to mint.

Until next time,

- Kaloh
