It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to avoid the “spam” label or aiming to get into rewards — everything starts with building a clear and compelling online personality.

Think of your account like a house:

The foundation is your inner world — values, purpose, identity. The walls are your external signals — tone, content, style, interaction.

No foundation? Nothing to build on.

No walls? No one sees it.

STEP 2. Your Identity and Purpose

Foundation by identity bricks

Identity bricks are the distinct characteristics that together form a cohesive, recognizable persona, both in real life and online. These “bricks” already exist within you. This is exactly how people form opinions about you in real life.

When you walk into a room, meet someone, or send a message — you’re already projecting them. Even by staying silent. Even by the clothes you wear. Even by who you choose to ignore.

In real life, people read us through voice, look, body language, smell, and mood. Online — all the attention shifts to your text, visuals, rhetoric, and symbols.

And like it or not, if it’s not clear for people who you are within a second, if something doesn’t feel right or clear about you — they won’t pause to figure it out. They’ll just scroll past and subconsciously file you under spam label.

Here are those bricks:

1. Distinct Traits:

Your unique personality/body features, such as curly hair, crossed teeth, a chaotic lifestyle, or a quirky sense of humor. These are the things that make you memorable.

2. Location / Origin:

Where you are from, both geographically and culturally. This adds context to your perspective and influences how people relate to you.

3. Education / Background:

Your level of formal education or self-taught knowledge.

4. Social or Political Stance:

Your beliefs and values regarding society, politics, or current issues.

5. Hobbies & Interests Outside Work:

What excites you when you’re not working — whether it’s sports, art, travel, or any other passions.

6. Inner Circle:

The people you are closest to, whether family, friends, or significant others.

7. Outer Circle:

The people you interact with publicly — colleagues, acquaintances, or people you engage with online.

8. Money Context:

What is your social status.

9. Social Behavior:

How you behave in social setting . Are you outgoing, introverted, or somewhere in between?

10. Personality Traits:

Your strengths and flaws. People tend to remember the quirks, flaws, and unique traits that make you human.

11. Taste (Music, Visuals, Aesthetics):

Your style, music preferences, and overall aesthetic.

12. Profession and Level in It:

Your career or profession and where you stand in it.

13. Vulnerabilities & How You Show Them:

Your openness about struggles, fears, or weaknesses.

Format

Do you wanna be yourself or creating a character?Open or anonymous?

Either way, your account needs an internal logic and recognizable voice. All based on the same bricks mentioned before. Example of formats:

  1. Honest, personal-professional blog (your face, your thoughts) This is what farcaster favours right now ‼️

  1. Fictional (a hyper version of you or your alter ego, your dog or imaginary friend y etc)

Goal

Why are you doing this? If you find your right motivation, it’s gonna be a fun journey for you. Examples:

I wanna build a personal brand (e.g. in crypto), аttract clients or job offers, enter a specific community, find like minded people, get paid for content, explore an alter ego, become a local meme/icon, improve your creative skills, keep a public diary.

TASKS FOR TODAY

  1. Choose your account type
Will it be personal blog or a character?

  2. Set your goal
What do you need the account for?

  3. List your identity bricks
Write down details that show who you are.

  4. Compare this to your current account — what’s clear about you, and what’s not?

That’s it for today. Tomorrow step 3. Let’s go.

Currently working on this awesome guide by @katekornish. Honestly this step is pretty tough, kinda stuck on defining what my goal should be with my online persona. On one hand, I absolutely want to use FC to build a career as a designer/builder so I can move on from my dayjob. On the other hand, I'm interested in alternative spirituality and how it can help us build a better society. I'm also interested in DAOs. Problem is, I don't want to dilute my persona too much. Feel like that's where I'm currently struggling. Is it possible to have more than one goal and still have a well rounded persona? Or is it best to stick with just one goal? https://paragraph.com/@katekornish/step-2-identity-and-purpose?referrer=0xd25AD8d836Bf95e2876E34d6e46635A90C38BB86
