What I Want To Build

A few days ago, I looked back at the things I've built over the past 4 years. At first glance, they seemed all over the place:

  • A guild management tool for Axie Infinity

  • A social DAO for the Japanese community

  • Tools for DAO compensation and contributor benefits

  • A tool for DAOs to treasury swap

  • A productivity tool for DAO delegates

  • 3 plugins for on-chain games

  • A fully on-chain prediction market

  • A non-stop livestream of AI bot battles

You might wonder what connects them. They seem like they belong to entirely different worlds. And in a way, they do. But they were all driven by a single idea:

To create a new kind of work, one that anyone can do from anywhere.

Until late 2020, I wasn't even interested in blockchain. I was still searching for the next big thing. Blockchain seemed too technical, too abstract. But then something happened. I heard about Axie Infinity, a blockchain game. At first, I wasn't that into it. I'm not much of a gamer, and I was skeptical of blockchain. But I decided to give it a try because my friend recommended it.

So I bought some Axie NFTs and lent them out to few Philippinose I met online . And they started earning money just by playing a game.

“Wait a minute,” I thought. “Buying NFTs—this simple act—can create new jobs that anyone can do from anywhere?”

That was my first "Aha!" moment with blockchain.

From there, things moved quickly. I bought more Axie NFTs, started a guild, and at its peak, we had 11 members. I built a tool to manage the guild. But then the Axie economy crashed, and my attention shifted to DAOs. DAOs seemed more impactful by solving a real problem.

Think about it. Most companies today, they are based in specific locations. If they want to hire people from other countries, they do so through third party companies that are located there or creating new branches etc. But why? If you're serving people globally, why not be entirely online? DAOs, as internet-native organizations, create new opportunities for anyone, no matter where they are.

I spent almost 3 years building tools for DAOs. But there was a problem: DAOs didn't scale. They did create new types of work, like roles for professional delegates, but the use cases were too few. (DeFi protocols and L1/L2)

That led me to onchain gaming, especially Autonomous Worlds. Not everyone wants to participate in DAO governance, but everyone loves games. Games have built-in motivation; people care about the games they play. And Autonomous Worlds are different: they’re permissionless, fully on-chain, and composable. Anyone can build on top of them. I started imagining a future where professional game-plugin builders could emerge as a new type of work.

Axie Infinity, DAOs, Autonomous Worlds ... Now I'm looking at UGC market creations like pump.fun or NightMarket (A fully onchain prediction market I build with Lib)

All domains look different, but they were all about the same thing. And I didn't even notice it till now.

Why am I so obsessed with creating new types of work?

Because I believe everyone should be able to work from anywhere.

Before blockchain, I was building an app called "Here" to help long-distance couples and families feel closer. All of my past relationships were international and long-distance.

This year alone, I’ve stayed in Kobe, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Brighton, Brussels, New York, Houston, and Kyoto. I can’t see myself living in one place for too long. I want multiple bases across the world. The biggest requirement for my future partner is that she can work from anywhere.

I don’t know exactly where this obsession comes from, but I know it’s important to me. And I want a world where working from anywhere isn’t a luxury. It should be normal.

From now on, I'm going to focus—intentionally—on building products that let people work from anywhere. Nothing else.
