Last Week Onchain: Feb 26 - March 3

A collection of onchain things worthy of your attention & personal notes.

First things first. Thank you for being here with me! Last Week Onchain is my weekly (or not) bookmark with short personal notes & the best finds from my onchain journey across channels, frames, and clients. π™΄πš‘πšŽπš›πšŒπš’πšœπšŽ πš˜πš— πšŒπšžπš›πšŠπšπš’πš˜πš—.

Mix & Match: Onchain Distribution Tools

The paradigm is shifting for creators. New platforms follow the principles of composability, ownership, and better financial incentive systems to change the way onchain content is distributed and shared.

Interface, Paragraph, Converse
  • Instagram/Pinterest/Tumblr β†’ Zora: upload your imagination onchain

  • Instagram Explore Tab β†’ Interface.social: follow wallets activity onchain in a single feed

  • Galleries β†’ Gallery.so: display your digital art collection

  • Medium & Substack β†’ Paragraph or Mirror

  • Whatsapp β†’ Converse: message wallet-to-wallet

  • Patreon β†’ Hypersub: create recurring revenue with NFT subscriptions.

And L2s like Base and Zora are making it easy and cheap to put literally anything onchain.

Best Practices to Host a Channel

Last week /Art has been 11th most active channel on Farcaster with just 4k followers. For comparison, memes (10) - 106k, zora (13) - 15.7k. Building a special community of art-lovers there!

While I genuinely believe that 'channel' is a collective effort at its essence, here're a few personal reflections.

Vision for /Art

/Art - a broader channel for all forms of art. A welcoming space for enjoying, exploring, sharing, debating, inspiring, and learning.

Role of a Host

I view my role as a host from two perspectives: as a moderator (spam and quality control) & as a curator (pinned messages).

The main challenge lies in balancing personal taste with impartial moderation. The goal is to maintain overall quality while respecting a wide array of artistic expressions.

Best Practices

  1. Simple but clear rules. What type of content is encouraged? Why casts could be hidden?

  2. "Warn and hide" instead of "Hide quietly" in 99% cases. This keeps me accountable and honest.

  3. Leading by example. Always promote interesting and authentic content.

  4. Limit pinned messages to 5, featuring artists, artworks, opinions and questions. Switching them daily. Keep 1 permanent pin with important information.

  5. Ask for feedback. Regularly check in with the art community to stay sensitive to the current needs. (Example: Temperature check: what’s annoying, unclear, missing in /art channel?)

  6. Stay actively engaged in your channel. I'm the #1 fan of /art and the most active reply-guy. Cheer for others, offer support and feedback, share your own content and recast others, positively recognize favourite accounts.

This was my response to @yb for A letter to Farcaster Channels. Highly recommend reading it for a comprehensive mental approach to channels and great insights from other hosts.

Onchain Gems

I approach life with curiosity, which leads me to consuming a lot of content. But there're always gems that stand out the most. Enjoy !!!

Mint responsibly, "free" mints are often not really free.

Each piece is unique. Each one is part of a larger whole.

Note: This is the largest generative art collection in history.

Design Everydays Season 2 by @0xdesigner
Season 2 is an open edition on Zora (free, except for gas fees). With 'Paper Boy' subscription, new concepts will be airdropped to your wallet daily.
Personal favourite from Season 2 - Degen tips (024); from Season 1 - ZK Rent Application.

Click

At this point, anything could be a Frame - from NFT mints to ordering physical goods. Upcoming transaction support will unlock even more power for 1-click actions in your Farcaster feed. For now, keeping it fun:

To wrap up the first issue of Last Week Onchain, leaving you with a statement that has been on my mind a lot recently: We're all builders at heart. Let's build πŸ’œ

You will get to know me better over time, and I would like to get to know you too! My direct casts on Warpcast (@kugusha.eth) are always open for conversations and discussions. You can also send me a message onchain via Converse or any other XMTP-powered app.
