Axie Infinity: Origins Meta Report - Season 10 Early Epic Era (16 Sep 2024)

Archetype Usage, Win Rates, and Matchups

As usual, Fury Aggro, Feather, Poison are at the top along side Turnip in the Epic Era. Many different archetypes managed to get to top 1000, mainly as high level evolved Axies of "weaker" archetype can compete with teams with low level Axies. AXP and Meta Morph are certainly making an impact in the meta and I am glad that Axies are becoming the focus again in Origins as opposed to just focussing on Runes and Charms.

tldr:

  • Close to 100k players already for Axie Origins this Season

  • Fury Aggro, Feather, Poison, Turnip at the top

  • Jinx, Triple Owl, Pure Damage, Clover in top 100

Player Base Statistics

      Rank # Players Rankings
Challenger 1385 1-1385
    Dragon 4065 1386-5450
     Tiger 10668 5451-16118
      Bear 5507 16119-21625
      Wolf 5687 21626-27312
      Boar 24869 27313-52181
      Hare 14049 52182-66230
     Chick 18799 66231-85029
       Egg 14140 85030-99169

Very distinct 3 peaks in terms of player base distribution - 1 at 0-200 VStar for new players who never progressed, 1 at 400-600 VStar for players mostly "Play-to-Rice" and progress slowly over the Season, and 1 at around 1300 VStar at Tiger where players climbed and slowed down at Tiger. At the top end, over 1000 players at Challenger already and more than 10k players at Tiger.

Archetype Usage

Overall archetype usage

First a bit of update. This time I tried to include more than just the most popular 20 archetypes. Main reason being some "underused" archetypes are making it to the top, and I do not want to omit those archetypes. Obviously it makes the colours harder to see but I tried my best to pick the colour palette to display the data. Another update is that I am moving away from using Runes to define archetypes. Obviously there are some archetypes such as Glorious Mane, Sturdy Fighter, and Healing Pulse that are archetype defining, but I want to focus more on the Axie Parts as I believe those should be the most important element of the strategy of each archetype. I am still in the process of reclassifying archetypes, so next report may see some changes with the arhcetype list (e.g splitting Poison to Sleep Poison and non-Sleep Poison).

In a way, this plot shows the diversity of strategies available in Axie Origins, which makes me appreciate more about the difficulty in the balacing of Origins. Currently, Fury Aggro is the most dominant archetype at the top (and overall at 1700+ VStar), with Feather and Poison being the next 2 dominant archetypes. All have seen these 3 archetypes over and over again for the past few seasons. Turnip and Jinx are also around at the top, which pretty much round up the top 20 players or so.

At top 100 or so there are more archetypes including Sustain, Pure Damage, Triple Owl, Clover, and Topaz Turnip (which is currently labelled as Multiple Archetype).

With the introduction of AXP, I think more archetypes are able to get to the top 1000 or at least to Challenger. Even though the archetype may not be the most competitive, the high level evolved parts help with boosting the power level compared to teams with low level Axies.

For this season, I see more experimentation of different parts in certain archetypes from the introduction of the Meta Morph mechanic. I personally think it makes Origins a more fun game now that players are not limited by the availability of Axies with certain Parts combinations.

Archetype Win Rates and Matchups

Overall Archetype Win Rates

Turnip, Feather, Fury Aggro, and Poison are the top in terms of win rate. Again the win rate data reflects the archetype usage data at various Victory Star brackets.

Archetype Matchups

A pretty big table this time. Only matchups with more than 10 games are displayed, and this is for every match with at least 1 player at 1700+ VStar. Fury Aggro is looking pretty good as long as it can dodge Feather, Eggshell Mavis, and Clover. Sustain as usual has the most polarising matchups.

Conclusion

This Season is looking pretty fun. Even though it is mostly the same archetypes, Meta Morph allows players to experiment a bit more even within existing archetypes. I do hope that Fury Aggro and Feather can be changed a bit so that it is not always so dominant season after season, but at least we see quite a number of archetypes being viable at least at top 1000.
