Axie Infinity: Origins Meta Report - Season 9 Final Era (29 Jul 2024)

Archetype Usage, Win Rates, and Matchups

We are finally at the end of Season 9. It is definitely a Turnip Season from start to finish. This season we saw over 100k players in Origins. With Axie Classic coming back strong, I wonder how will players balance / choose between Classic and Origins. Origins still has better earning power but that may slowly change as Sky Mavis seems to be putting a lot of effort into reviving Classic recently. Let us hope that they will continue their support with Origins and let both Origins and Classic grow together.

tldr:

  • A Turnip Season from start to finish

  • Close to 120k players in Season 9 of Axie Origins

Player Base Statistics

      Rank # Players Rankings
Challenger 5294 1-5294
    Dragon 7395 5295-12689
     Tiger 10529 12690-23218
      Bear 10498 23219-33716
      Wolf 13872 33717-47588
      Boar 14192 47589-61780
      Hare 12782 61781-74562
     Chick 21229 74563-95791
       Egg 23457 95792-119248

Close to totally 120k players in Season 9 of Axie Origins, which is definitely a significant increase compared to previous seasons. Having said that, about 40k players are at 200 Victory Star or below, which means a third of the players never progressed in the game.

In terms of number of players at Challenger, it has not increased much at close to 5300. Do note that players can drop from Challenger back to Dragon, so in theory the number of players in Challenger can decrease due to losing and/or decay.

It is interesting to see the that distribution is quite even / flat between Hare and Tiger. At this point, most players are settled at a particular level based on the power level of their teams.

Archetype Usage

Overall archetype usage

Only 3 players are at 2500+ VStar at the time of writing with only 20 games players between Days 3 and 5 of the Final Era were played at that level. If we take into account 2400-2500 VStar, we see that Turnip is still the most used archetype at the top followed by Feather and Brutal Claw. I am sure Turnip will be addressed next Season but I hope that other underused archetypes can be adjusted to make them more viable.

Archetype Win Rates and Matchups

Overall Archetype Win Rates

Fury Aggro and Ramp Tiny Fan are losing their grounds while Turnip, Feather, Poison, Brutal Claw, and Healing Pulse are still going strong at the top. Jinx has fallen and all the other archetypes are settled at lower VStar brackets.

Archetype Matchups

Turnip really only has one weakness and that is Fury Aggro. The problem is that even though Fury Aggro is the second most used archetype, the chances of matching with other archetypes are still so high that it makes the overall win rate of Turnip the highest. We cannot expect players to all shift to Fury Aggro just to counter Turnip as Fury Aggro is very weak to the most used archetype, Feather.

Conclusion

This wraps up the meta reports for Season 9 of Axie Origins. Best of luck with the final push in the Final Era. Let us hope that there will be some drastic balance changes to shake up the meta. We have seen too much Feather, Fury Aggro, and Poison. Hopefully there will be some new fun stuff for Season 10!
