Sadness: Going Inwards

A poetic reading meditation for facing one of the most challenging emotions that we all universally share as human beings.

Gently turn inward,

Taking your time.

Here,

You’re invited to allow comfort,

To let yourself feel safe,

To rest in the security of this moment.

Begin to acknowledge the sadness within,

Softly,

Slowly,

Embracing a sense of safety as you do.

Let your awareness find this sadness,

Wherever it resides,

Maybe in a part of you,

Or your whole being.

See it from a distance,

Safe, secure,

Free from judgment.

No need to understand,

To analyze,

Or to solve—

Just observe,

Feeling the presence of this sadness.

And when the mind interrupts,

Pulling you away,

Return to where you were,

Observing,

Floating gently closer,

Until you reach the edge of feeling.

Feel the sadness,

Without stories,

Without the weight of details.

Just sadness,

Pure and simple,

Human and raw,

Safe here within you.

Each time the mind brings judgment,

Or tries to attach a story,

Return to the purity of this feeling.

This is sadness,

Untouched by thought,

Inviting you inward,

To be still.

Sadness is an invitation,

A gentle grounding within,

A quiet depth that asks nothing,

But to be felt.

Breathe with it now,

In and out,

Offering peace with each breath.

Let your breath be a gift,

A rhythm of gentle acceptance,

Showing this sadness that you’re willing,

Willing to breathe for it,

To honor it.

Feel the quiet within the sadness,

The soft peace you have created,

However subtle it may be.

Sadness, touched by peace,

Held in your breath.

And if the mind returns with chatter,

Find your breath again,

Feel the steady in and out,

The calm that flows through you,

No action required,

Just resting.

Here you are,

Having ventured courageously within,

Bringing stillness to your sadness,

Allowing quietude.

Now is the time to rest deeply,

To be as you are,

Or to find a more comfortable place.

Let your body guide you,

And remember,

You are still invited to feel,

To feel yourself being breathed,

To rest,

For as long as you need,

For as long as you desire.

Rest here,

With your sadness,

With yourself.

Simply feeling,

Simply resting.
