Why Paragraph.xyz?

My main motivation for using Paragraph is that I miss Warpcast’s thread functionality. As I occasionally like to share background information on my photography projects, a longer form of writing is required.

Postcards From Indochine

My new photography series, "Postcards from Indochine," is a deliberate exploration of a region often overshadowed by romanticised views and misunderstood history.

During French colonialism (19th & early 20th centuries), "Indochine" encompassed Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, reflecting France's economic and geopolitical ambitions. I reclaim this term not to glorify that era but to acknowledge its impact on artistic expression. Colonial-era art often presented an idealised vision of Indochine, far removed from reality.

However, Indochina's legacy extends far beyond colonialism. After independence, it continued to inspire artistic movements, serving as a powerful backdrop for artists engaged with themes of identity, memory, and the complexities of post-colonial realities.

"Postcards from Indochine" draws inspiration from this cultural richness and the region's breathtaking landscapes. This series might evoke images of a picturesque past filtered through an idealistic (colonial) lens. Through my lens, I hope to transcend those idealised portrayals and to capture the region's authentic beauty in the present day, highlighting its enduring cultural influence that continues to resonate.
