Donald Trump inches from Death, A Major NFT Platform shutting down and the Rothschilds buying crypto ?

What the f*ck is happening lately ??

Welcome to Nahiko's Bookmarks, a careful curation of my favorite posts, straight to your inbox every Thursday !

Look, I don't even know how to introduce this week's newsletter. I mean look at that title ?! 👇

🗞 Donald Trump inches from Death

I love how OSINT teams up with Journalism.

See how AI was used to trace the bullet's path inches from Trump's head ! (with debatable precision for now)

Not convinced ? Here's another proof of this match made in heaven.

Just a few days in, and @samueloakford & @washingtonpost had released this amazing 3D visualization:

🗞 KnownOrigin is shutting down

That's it. After AsyncArt, now KnownOrigin is shutting down.

Millions of NFTs, all stored on IPFS. 😭

Let's make it interesting — how about we get @Polymarket to create a bet: "How long will the @KnownOrigin_io IPFS-stored NFTs last?"

Some of you wonder how it's gonna play out:

Here's what's gonna happen:

- in 3 months: everything still works

- in 2 years: everything still works

- in 3 years: IPFS bill unpaid

- in 5 years: 99% of NFTs → 404 ERROR: NOT FOUND

Lesson: Store your NFTs on-chain! (Keep an eye out for an upcoming how-to article in this newsletter or on twitter: @nahiiko )

🛠 How to become a Crypto Analyst

@0xKofi just dropped a gem I had no clue about!

🛠 The Rothschilds would buy crypto ?

Fun fact: did you know they got their family name from the red coat symbol that was used as their house number in old Germany ?

@Debussy100 certainly thinks so!

But what about NFTs ?

Could my NFT bags turn me into the next Nathan Rothschild? 🤔

Illusion-based Image Compression ?

Master illusionist @AkiyoshiKitaoka posted an interesting image this week:

Why is this interesting? It sparked an idea:

a new compression algorithm.

Storing color is expensive. Each pixel's color needs 3 infos (e.g., 40% red, 20% blue, 10% green).

In contrast, black and white are much more efficient and only need 1 info (e.g., 50% black for one pixel, 20% for another).

So, what if we used illusions to compress images?

Storing color only every 100 pixels could cut image size by 66% (according to ChatGPT 😭, I'm too dumb to run the numbers).

Of course things aren't that simple, but it's an interesting concept I will probably explore further soon.

The $100 Theory

Time for some Psychology ! 👀

Earlier this week I posted a poll on Twitter asking the following: Would you rather pay $10 for a 1/1000 NFT or $10,000 for a 1/1 NFT ?

Well the results are in, and I have to say I'm quite surprised !

Ok so here's my theory:

The $100 price point is the sweet-spot.

Let's look at the numbers

Price

$10

$100

$1,000

$10,000

Edition Numbers

1000

100

10

1

Poll Result

33.8%

22.1%

15.6%

28.6%

Voters

26

17

12

22

Potential Revenue

$260

$1,700

$12,000

$220,000

I think it's an easy choice right ? No ? Ok Ok, you can argue that you won't be able to sell 22 1/1s in one drop, let's say you can't sell more than the corresponding edition number:

Potential Revenue

$260

$1,700

$10,000

$10,000

This is already making 1/10's more interesting ! Now let's assume whoever would buy a 1/10 for $1,000 would also buy below that (without capping):

Buyers

26+17+12+22

17+12+22

12+22

22

Potential Revenue

$770

$5,100

$22,012

$220,000

and with capping:

Buyers

26+17+12+22

17+12+22

12+22 (capped at 10)

22 (capped at 1)

Potential Revenue

$770

$5,100

$10,000

$10,000

You can see how close it's getting ! Especially if we start guessing what the final edition number could be at each price (instead of fixing it)

Buyers

26+17+12+22 = 770(total voters * 10)

200 (arbitrary guess)

25

3

Price

$10

$100

$1,000

$10,000

Potential Revenue

$7,700

$20,000

$25,000

$30,000

Am I tweaking the numbers too much ? Probably, what's your conclusion ?

For me, I'm not sure yet, it does seem like the $100 price point holds up, but it does not show up in numbers like I expected. Of course these numbers are all tied to me, and heavily depend on current market configurations, marketing and virality.

I'm currently working on releasing my internal analytics tooling which will give much better insights, respond to this email if you're interested in being a beta-tester (both collectors and artists).
