Emerging Trends in Crypto: Smart Wallets, SocialFi, and Onchain Feeds

In this article, we will spotlight some trending topics in the crypto world: Smart Wallets, SocialFi, and Onchain Feeds.

Onchain Feeds

The term “onchain feeds” refers to social media feeds that are integrated with blockchain technology. These feeds allow users to engage in typical social media activities such as posting, liking, sharing, and commenting, but with added blockchain features.

Onchain feeds enhance traditional social media by enabling seamless interaction, commerce, and community engagement within a decentralized framework.

For example, Farcaster is a decentralized social network protocol that supports various clients like Warpcast, Nook, Kiosk etc.

Here’s how these features apply:

Kiosk: A new Farcaster client where social meets on-chain.

When onchain social meets onchain commerce, it’s more than just posting, liking, sharing, and commenting. It’s being able to share an image and make it mintable as an NFT with one click. It’s being able to discover and buy the assets your friends are collecting and creating directly in the feed. It’s being able to bring together like-minded collectors and community members in a token-powered channel or group chat. It’s being able to tip, earn, and be notified when anything important happens — all without leaving the app.

Nook: Reimagines how we navigate and experience crypto, both on-chain and off-chain.

Once Upon: Contextualizes on-chain transactions through a community-driven approach. In other words, it provides a way for users to understand and interpret on-chain transactions by involving the community in the process.

Warpcast

Interface: simplifies and socializes the Web3 experience. It transforms complex blockchain data into an intuitive social feed, making it easy for users to see, share, and engage with their friends’ activities in the decentralized world.

As L2s make minting cheaper and platforms such as Paragraph, Zora, Sound, etc. help bring content onchain, the need for onchain social discovery will only grow more & more.

- What are my friends minting?

- Was there a banger piece on Mirror that everyone is excited about?

- Are my Farcaster friends excited about this new NFT collection?

- Why are so many smart people buying a random memecoin?

To me, Interface feels like the ribbon that ties everything together. As the number of tools & platforms that are focused on increasing onchain content grow, Interface will only become more important for discovery purposes. Most people in crypto are quite excited to mint. The issue is that the majority of folks can’t afford to spend all their time trying to find the onchain content they care about.

SocialFi

(Social finance; the convergence of social media and decentralized finance where platforms leverage blockchain technology to facilitate social interactions, engagement, and financial activities.)

Bracket Game: enables fans to actively participate in supporting their favorite sports teams by trading votes and engaging in a social community centered around sports fandom. Through the use of blockchain technology, Bracket Game creates a decentralized ecosystem where fans can interact, trade, and earn rewards based on the performance of their chosen teams in real-life tournaments.

How to get started

Fantasy is a SocialFi platform similar to fantasy sports but with Crypto Twitter influencers instead of athletes. You collect and trade influencer cards, set up your team for weekly competitions, and earn rewards based on your performance. It’s designed to be intuitive for anyone familiar with the basics of fantasy sports.

Unique Aspects of Fantasy

  1. Trading Card Game (TCG) Element:

  • Besides being a fantasy sports game, Fantasy is also a Trading Card Game (TCG). Players use crypto influencer trading cards to compete, monetize their social capital, and showcase their research expertise.

2. Hero Cards:

  • Hero cards come in different rarities (Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary) and Seasons (currently all cards are Season 1). Rarity affects the number of cards in circulation, while the impact of Seasons is not yet clear.

3. Hero Score:

  • Each Hero has a Hero score determining lineup performance in tournaments. This score is based on: Views ranking, Reach ranking
     Total number of views.

Players must research these metrics to optimize their lineups, making it more nuanced than just picking influencers with the most followers.

Perl : is another SocialFi application built on Farcaster, where users can place bets on social engagement metrics. Perl offers a simpler gameplay experience compared to Fantasy.

How Perl Works

Perl is a free-to-play game that relies on player skill to make predictions. It features two main game modes:

  1. MORE/LESS: Predict if a user’s post will get more or fewer likes.

  2. VERSUS: Predict which of two users will get more likes on their posts.

The in-game currency, $PERL, is used for placing bets. In the future, Perl might introduce a decentralized, on-chain version of the token, potentially through an airdrop.

Smart Wallets

“Smart Accounts” (or “Smart Wallets”) are smart contract wallets (SCW) with “Account Abstraction” features. They have become a hot topic among crypto developers. Account Abstraction (AA) launched in the EVM ecosystem in Q1 2023 and is starting to gain traction.

Why is AA important

Coinbase Smart Wallet, now available in testnet, aims to simplify and enhance your crypto experience. This upgrade integrates Account Abstraction (AA) for easier app access with passkeys. Users receive a 4337 wallet for consistent, secure, and seamless access across all platforms.
