How Base Summer Buildathon Projects Are Bringing Users Onchain

The Base Summer Buildathon showcased some of the most creative and innovative uses of base technology I’ve come across recently as someone constantly exploring how Base can revolutionize everyday experiences. This week, I checked out the projects and interacted with them. These aren’t just tech demos—they are real-world solutions that can bring people like me (and you) onchain with ease. Let me walk you through my experience with these exciting projects and why I believe they have the power to onboard even more users onchain.

Zap by PayCrest: Onchain to Fiat Payments in a Zap

When I first saw the Zap by PayCrest interface, I thought wow! Traditionally, onchain transactions can be a bit intimidating, especially if you’re not familiar with handling digital wallets, gas fees and issues like such. However, Zap makes it feel as easy as sending money through PayPal or a credit card transaction.

As a user, I appreciated how Zap streamlines the entire process. The interface supports Base, which means that whether I’m using Ethereum, Polygon, or another network, I can move my funds quickly and without hassle. The user interface is intuitive, with clear prompts that can make a user feel confident in their transactions. This simplicity is key to bringing more people onchain.

In my opinion, if more platforms adopt this kind of straightforward design, it will make onchain transactions more accessible to the general public. Zap essentially removes the barriers that prevent people from using onchain technology by making it feel familiar and secure. This project has real potential to bring non-crypto natives onchain, especially if they’re looking for a smooth, user-friendly payment experience.

Web3 to High School Leavers: Bringing the Next Generation Onchain through Education

Another project that left a lasting impression on me was this project. I’ve always believed that the Onchain future hinges on education because people can’t fully embrace onchain technology if they don’t understand how it works or why it matters. What this project does so well is introduce high school graduates to its possibilities in a way that’s both engaging and practical.

I went through the youtube video content they created and saw that the pioneers of this project were able to reach over 300 high school students and introducing them to the Onchain technology through engaging lessons, online library containing educational resources to keep them updated. They also offered the students certificate of participation to encourage them and also as a form of proof of work for these kids. For me, this project represents a crucial step toward onboarding the next generation of innovators Onchain. By targeting high school leavers, it gives young people the knowledge and skills they need to not only participate in but also shape the future. As they develop a deeper understanding of they become advocates for the technology, and ultimately Base, helping to bring even more people onchain. I see this project as a long-term investment in the Base ecosystem—one that can significantly broaden its reach. Check their YouTube here

OnChain Summer Anthem: Bridging the Gap between Offchain and Onchain through Music

I’ve always been curious about how the Base movement could intersect with creative industries like music, and this project gave me a glimpse of that future. The idea behind the OnChain Summer Anthem is simple yet powerful: show the value of the Base blockchain through music, and use it to bridge the gap between offchain and onchain while uniting and inspiring others to come onchain and build on Base.

When I first listened to the anthem, I couldn’t help but feel excited about what this project represents for artists and fans alike.

The Onchain Summer Anthem educates listeners on the benefits of coming onchain through Base. If more music and entertainment projects start to follow this model, we could see a significant shift in how creative content is distributed and consumed, bringing more people onchain.

Come get Based, Bren

The Base Summer Buildathon showed me that Base has the potential to touch every aspect of our lives, from how we handle money to how we learn and enjoy entertainment. What excites me most is how these projects are not just tech experiments—they are real-world applications that can make onchain technology accessible to everyone. If you read this far, I know you’re curious to know more about Base and the numerous opportunities it offers, Start here and here.

Till next time, Adios!
