Hi, and welcome to issue 20 of NFT Matrix, where I review NFT Artists’ work. There is no presumption or judgement here, only exposure. The artist I am reviewing is Yon. Pastel and ponderous is how I would describe their work. I look at a couple of the artist’s pieces from their various platforms/social media and provide my review. Hope you enjoy, I’m always open to feedback.
Piece:
“Dawn of Peace”
This blissed out butterfly makes me want to just chilllll out. The colors are psychedelic, but not in unappealing way (sometimes there can be such a color clash). The soft background also helps keep things light. Something tells me that a new-age rock album cover isn’t far away for Yon.
Piece:
“Hurtful Laughter”
Yon’s description for this piece hints at how laughter can be used to hide sadness. I find this fairly accurate - the world is in such turmoil that it’s sometimes absurd. I like to laugh at it, for example by seeing a plane fly by at night and saying “it must be a UFO”. The imagery here of a multi-eyed jester is interesting since jesters are usually the entertainment, but this jester seems to be more of a consumer.
Upon further inspection, there are endless shapes and textures contained in the clothing and face of the jester. Instead of Carl Sagan’s quip that humans are the universe knowing itself, perhaps humans are the way the universe laughs at itself?
Piece: “Identity”
This piece was painted on the Berlin Wall by the artist before it was replaced by another piece of art. This is a great testament to the lack of finality for all art, statements, and politics. Very few artists and what they had to say will survive beyond a human lifetime. That’s ok - like the Buddhists say - there is only the present. Every thing changes moment to moment, and this is reincarnation. This work, the Berlin Wall, and all moments are constantly transforming.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this brief introduction to the artist! Find their links here.
See you next time! I’ve been finding it hard to write these every week, but will aim for once to twice a month.
Feel free to reply, share, or subscribe! I’ve also got my own art and music (links on twitter: nftmatrix).
