Hi, and welcome to issue 5 of NFT Matrix, where I review NFT Artists’ work. There is no presumption or judgement here, only exposure. The artist I am reviewing is the Proof of Beauty Project from the midwest. Mathy and abstract is how I would characterize the work. The project has an algorithm which generates a piece of art based on the variables associated with a transaction on the Ethereum blockchain. This is interesting because certain transactions act as bookmarks in the blockchain’s history. I look at a couple of the project’s pieces from the project’s various platforms/social media and provide my review. Hope you enjoy, I’m always open to feedback.

This piece is an example of how the algorithmic component of this project can come into effect. The color palette is reminiscent of a PNW plaid jacket. The shapes of the slices are suggestive of half moons and leaves. There are mostly medium and small slices. There is even a quilt like quality to the various slices.
Piece: “NO. 2094 (0xfe05...c5da)”

This piece has some very interesting colors. Brown, yellow, purple, and pink don’t usually contrast very well, but I think the algorithm did a great job. In contrast to the first piece, you can see larger gaps, as well as larger slices. The overall effect is to remind one of perhaps dragon scales, or even a sci-fi dawn on a planet with three moons.
Piece: “The Creation Of Cargo Gems (GEM) S0: 1881/2555”

I like that this piece has so many layers. There are nice contrasts between dark and light, and even the whites/pinks aren’t too bright. This lends the piece a cool ambience.
I feel like I have to give my two cents on the generative art trend in the NFT scene. I think there is a lot of potential to create colorful and engaging art. I also think that sometimes these pieces are hard to connect with very deeply (no matter how elegant). Sometime you just want art which makes you relaxed. Sometimes you want it to engage your senses. I think this is where these particular pieces find a medium between complexity and color, where the energy of the colors can have a difference when presented in one’s environment.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this brief introduction to Proof of Beauty! Find the project on:
