Welcome to Words3

A Guide to Have On-Chain Fun

Have you played this game on your phone?

Well if you have and you've enjoyed it then you're going to love Words3! The rules of playing this two games are almost the same but I'm going to share the differences and how to start and basically introduce a new way of having fun.

This fully on-chain game was suggested to me by Papajams and obviously it's a good thing to follow /words3 channel on Warpcast and get updates. First I tried to make a video but the background noise was too much and I didn't like my recorded voice 🙂 But I made notes as I started and it is kind of step by step with pros and cons (totally from my own point of view).

How to start

On a computer, go to here which is my own referral link. I think because this game's board have infinite amount of squares to fill with words (not like the mobile version -pic above), it can't be played on phone. Anyhow, if the page didn't load and you see something like the picture below, just wait a couple of minutes for it to load. As you can see I clicked on the agreement.

After this you can connect your wallet, I connected my Coinbase one. One interesting thing here is the message board. If you want to send a message you have to sign in with your Farcaster account using Neynar QR code. It took 3 reloading for me to sign in. Typing any message even a simple "hi" takes time (It's that slow! Maybe it's because of my ancient laptop and my pain in the bum internet connection at home 😀). Each message will be casted in Word3 channel.

When you just point the mouse on any user name you see their stats (pic above). You can also invite your friends in Fc, Twitter and GitHub even before starting to play.

By clicking the green "Get Letters to Play", you'll buy 7 random letters which for me started at 0.00158 ETH on Redstone network which I didn't even know that it existed! According to words3 rules for letter pricing: "Letter pricing escalates with each purchase but gradually decreases over time. Higher letter prices decline more rapidly". So I went to Redstone website here, connected my wallet and bridged 0.002 ETH on Base to Redstone (there's only ETH available) which was pretty easy and I saw all my ETH in Transactions section.

The moment the deposit is completed, you can see it on your Word3 profile. It's better to reload the page then get the letters. I got USSETIE. Then I searched to find a good place to make a word.

You can zoom in and out to see the whole board then double left-click and drag to move around the board. As this was a trial for me I didn't search too much, I just found a place for my letters. As you can see in picture above if your word hits the 2L, 4L, or 2W you get double (or quadruple) points for a letter, or a word. For example if part of your word uses someone else's letters and one of your letters hit the 2W, you'll get double points for your own and the other users word, pretty awesome, eh?

Choose a square, select a letter you have and it sits on the board, click on it again and hit Backspace in your keyboard and the letter gets deleted. You don't need to choose a square every time for a letter, the game goes ahead and chooses the next square itself. As you can see I found 2 Rs with 7-letter space for my word and made RussetieR. I got 11 points which is not much! I didn't played it well because I wanted just to try the game and write this post 😄. When you are sure that you want to set your word on he board, you need to confirm the transaction in your wallet. If you try some unknown word you get a message (bottom-right of the screen- yellow) like: "UIE" is not a word.

Frankly I love this game and the only thing that bothers me is that I have to buy 7 letters every single time for 5-6$. It's a bit expensive for me and my suggestion is: give at least 3 letters for free for the first time or allow users to buy letters for a cheaper price (like the price of a free mint on Zora).

I'm waiting to see when the NFTs for Words3 comes along, when some other builder adds a new feature to it and so on because this game has potential for great things in the future.

thanks for reading
