One year ago, I decided to start a weekly newsletter with a goal of onchain verification and NFT gated premium content every now and then. Essentially an onchain newsletter and community.
Version 1.0
I built the first version with WordPress and quickly discovered that it would require a cocktail of premium plugins to get started. So I simplified things and just started publishing to get started. After a few months, one of the plugins I was using introduced breaking changes, and I broke my weekly publishing streak. Things slowed down.
A new hope...
Fast forward to this week and I was scrolling Farcaster (the "sufficiently decentralised" social network) and discovered Paragraph.xyz. It offers pretty much all of the features I had aspirations for in a single package:
Email Automations for Posts
Collectable Memberships
Token Gated & Mintable Content
Decentralised Hosting
Linked to onchain Identities
Accountability
The next key feature, that was literally released this week was Streaks on Farcaster. This is a feature that allows you to set a goal of daily publishing to a channel. So I asked myself where would I like to cast regularly? Well something like that...
It took me a few days to connect the dots but I realised that starting my own channel was the probably the answer. It might not have the distribution of a broader community like Dan's /founders streak, but it could act as the sufficiently decentralised version of the newsletter I'd originally envisaged last year.
Version 2.0 Web 3.0 Bringing it all together
This is the first post, hopefully of many, that I am sharing via Paragraph to the /nuconomist channel on Farcaster to test the workflow. I've already set up my streak...
And I plan to share daily facts, stats and musings on crypto economy. Think Bitcoin, Crypto, DAOs, DeFi, NFTs and Web3. This is an emergent experiment so expect it to change shape, but I welcome you to join me on the journey.
