My brain contemplates
The things in which my eyes see
From the grass to the road to the tires on the car in front of me.
The bridge that we drive under.
The clouds in the sky.
The content on the billboard
That catches my eye as we drive by.
Some things look familiar.
Some newness I see today.
In my mind, I ponder
This moment in my life to which I have been brought.
As my gaze rests on my surroundings
Wherever my location may be
I ponder deeply
Are we different, as they say, you and me?
Do you brush your teeth in the morning?
Do you sniffle when something in your nose is not quite right?
Do you blink throughout each second?
Do you strive to live authentically throughout your life?
Do you dream of something in your heart?
Do you wish for things to have?
Do you wonder what is your purpose?
Do you strive to be happy
Even when sometimes you are sad?
Do you scratch your back if there is an itch?
Stroke your hair with a comb or brush?
Do you desire to be loved?
For your life to be enriched?
To understand the pattern
So you can place that next life stitch?
Do you ponder things that you have done?
Do you want your loved ones to be glad?
Do you feel a tickle in your soul
When you hear a child laughing
And see them smiling because they are glad?
Do you feel your tears as they take form
Then wipe them from your cheek?
Do you feel emotions of all kinds
Inside the vessel that is your body?
Do you get knots inside your neck
From too much worry, fear or stress?
Do you desire comfort and relief
To instead feel clarity in each step?
Does your tummy start to rumble
When you want something to eat?
Do you feel impacted if at that moment
Nourishment is not seen?
Do you hold gratitude for things that you have?
And sometimes wish that you had more?
Do you ever find yourself in misunderstandings
Where you start to feel not so sure?
Do you pray to the Lord above
As you navigate your way?
Believing that discernment and understanding
Will come through the steps you take each day?
Circumstances might look different.
Our terrain may not be the same.
Your mode of transportation
May look different than what I see throughout my days.
Some things may be identical.
Some may be similar in ways.
Some may be vastly different
Throughout this world as we gaze.
From the outside,
From what can be seen.
The world often tells us that we are different
Not equal, you and me.
If we eliminated the variations
The visible differences that meet the eye.
If we eliminated the talk of inconsistencies
How would we authentically perceive as we pass by?
Would you believe that we all are equal
Similar yet each unique?
Would you believe that we are all deserving
That we all should have, at the table, a seat?
