I am on a swing.
My legs pump as my body glides through the air.
The gentle breeze on my skin,
It feels calming.
It feels serene.
It feels refreshing.
I hold on as my torso leans back.
The gentle air glides across my skin as I sway to and fro.
I open my eyes.
I look up.
The sky is blue and the clouds are scattered about.
They remind me of the simplicity of life.
They make me feel warm and cozy inside as I think about their softness and sincere nature.
As my body swings back and forth,
I am reminded of the motion of life.
Of the fact that, wherever we are,
the motion keeps going.
I feel still in this moment though.
The air provides a refresher and instills the calmness that sometimes is so hard to find in life.
A plane passes by.
I am reminded that we are all pieces and parts of this Earth.
I am reminded that my presence matters,
Just as much as your own.
As my legs pump,
I gently bring my torso up.
I am seated upright now, swaying in the wind.
Making a wind of my own.
Life seems still in this place.
The Earth does not seem as if it could crumble.
I breathe in and I breathe out.
The fresh air cools my soul.
I feel safe.
I feel real.
I feel soft.
I feel, me.
A note from Melanie Jane
I wrote this piece in the year 2020 during a time of deep self work and reflection. I have held onto it and gone back to it for subtle reminders as the years have gone on. It is my hope that the words will resonate with others in their own way. ✧
