Save Farcasters from Spam Jail: A How To Guide
In just 5 minutes you can save a friend from a spam label

Today, 256,912 Farcasters have a Level 0 Spam Label, meaning they are likely to be spammers. We can't check them one by one and see if they are a false positive; there are too many. But you can save your friends from the Spam Label right now.
You can use the Dune query below to find out who YOU follow that has a Level 0 Spam Label. You will need to sign up for a FREE Dune account and then add your FID to run the query.

Scroll to the bottom and you'll see your following and who you follow. You can't do anything about who follows you, but you can investigate who you follow and take action. On the bottom right you'll see : Farcaster - Following with Spam Label - By FID; click the "label" heading to sort the table and go through the Level 0's.
Who are you following with a label? Are they honestly being spammy? Check their account and look at their recents casts. Use my guide to help your decide. Please remember this is guidance, not gospel. The spam algorithm is secret, as it should be, so this is based on behavioral patterns of accounts that get marked as spammy.
The Unwritten Rules of Warpcast: Avoiding Spam Labels (V2)
It's time to stop being polite and start being real. Farcaster is a super cool open protocol, but Warpcast, the main client 95% of us use to engage with it, is a closed sandbox with a lot of unwritten rules and culture that you have to figure out to do well.
If you 1000% believe some of the people you follow that have a "0" label are incorrect and you are willing to stake your reputation on it, please plead your case to the Warpcast team on the cast linked below.

If you see any people labelled 0 (definitely spam) that shouldn't be, please reply with their profiles here @pichi Will build something more scalable in the future, but for now this will be very helpful.
Who you follow is important. Unfollow spammy accounts. Save your friends who are mislabeled. Their Warpcast experience is awful.
Level 0 is not eligible for Warpcast rewards. When they tag people, those who were tagged don't get notified. Their replies are sent to the "Show More Replies" bucket. They are basically invisible on Warpcast. Daily Active Users is too small to lose good casters. The algorithm isn't perfect, so we have to help bring attention to those who get caught in the net.

Update, it was closer to 100,000. really awkward as a new caster if i'm being honest. i don't interact with a ton of people who i'm not mutuals with (some exceptions). but if you're new, everything is a potential land mine for being spam labeled then a tipping meta can maybe teach you that "oh hey everyone is commenting on this guy's post for tips.. why not" then a meta can turn on you and.. bam.. spam label

lol, everyone I personally on boarded left last summer. When the Spam labels finally went public, I could tell that every single one of them had been given the bad Spam label for no justifiable reason whatsoever, and I cannot convince them to come back to farcaster…

Farcaster should maybe look to reward those who do return and free themselves from the spam label? 🤔 Constantly growing, and encouraging active and engaged users is hard. But FC has an edge and an opportunity here, I think.

To people who are constantly labelled spammy, this feels like a grind. One day you're not spammy anymore, the next day boom you fell back into the spammy bucket. I wonder what's the purpose for the team to do such drastic measures, not benefiting engagement at all

Many people do not understand how the Neinar system works and do not even think that they can get a Spam Label. Personally, I myself have not long learned about these rating mechanics) No matter how many posts I made, I barely got a couple of likes and comments, and that was rare. I still don't understand how to get subscribers)
Neynar is completely separate and not managed by the Farcaster team.
If too many people end up with the Spam label, this could negatively affect the Farcaster platform. After all, developers and Projects are looking for an environment to attract an audience, not invisible users)

Very interesting 🤔. My spam label is 2, but I never see myself in the rewards rankings not showing up. And the opposite situation, many of my friends have a 0 mark, but they are in the rewards, and we are all definitely not spammers

HUGE changes to Spam. Spam is now binary. The algorithm is now set to likely to be spammy or unlikely to be spammy. The weird limbo level 1 level is gone and good riddance! Half of accounts on the network don’t have a label (probably inactive). Resources below on helping friends who are mislabeled.

Hmm. That shouldn’t be happening. Worth posting examples to /warpcast Also, the labels get updated daily, but the public data set only gets updated once a week so it’s possible that they look OK in the public data set but they really have a bad label in reality

Don’t follow spammers! Your follows give power to the dark side of the network. Disconnect yourself from it ASAP. You want to be in the top of this map, not at the bottom! Level 0 casters are inauthentic spam and you should ignore them. OR They are good casters who the algorithm has mislabeled for one of two reasons: 1. They don’t realize their behavior triggers the algorithm but behavior can be changed! 2. They are mislabeled and need help from friends to get out of spam jail. To win on Warpcast (and qualify for rewards/airdrops), your content needs engagement. 🔹 Prioritize quality over quantity—engagement beats sheer volume. 🔹 If your casts get zero interaction, rethink your approach. 🔹 Not a creator? Be a curator—share valuable content with context. 🔹 Text-based posts perform best, even for art—add a story or insight. 🔹 Warpcast rewards interaction and experimentation. Adapt, engage, and play the game. Don’t want to? You don’t have to. Farcaster is open and infinite. Use another client. Ignore all of this.

it's even worse for smaller accounts (like mine) unless they're doing it on purpose that you really need to reply guy 24/7 to be seen also different timezones makes it much more difficult
pretty much yea replying and engaging yet honestly I’m lucky to get 5 likes or 2 comments on a cast these days and that is saying something. Mainly my cohort has moved on or found many pain points here when I keep trying to reach out engage find new circles to met folxs and continue to do my usual routine it becomes so hard and way more effort than I have time for these days.

Farcaster seems to be using DAU as a KPI, but if they don’t continuously analyze the data while filtering out bots, they might misinterpret the actual situation. The most important thing should be the user experience. Lately, the home feed feels off. I wonder if they’re tracking impressions.

Engagement matters—treat it as a social network, not just a broadcasting platform. 3. The algorithm prioritizes engagement—interact with content you like to train your feed. 4. Give likes freely to support content you enjoy. 5. Reply thoughtfully—generic responses don’t add value and may be ignored. 6. Tag people with purpose—avoid tagging non-followers without a good reason. 7. Use channels to connect—they’re a safe space for engaging beyond your followers. 8. If you’re being ignored, check your spam label—many won’t see your replies if you’re at Level 0 or 1. 9. Rules are looser with friends—banter freely, but remember relationships take time to build. 10. Farcaster is a unique, close-knit community—engage authentically, be patient, and you’ll find your place.
(2/11) 1. Don’t ask for follows. People don’t like that. Most casters ignore anyone with F4F or anything like that in their profile. Some of this behavior stems from many moons ago when you needed 200/400 followers to get an “Active Badge” and then a good ratio to get a Power Badge. Many airdrop farmers flooded the network with F4F posts that were nothing but spam in the hopes of being eligible for airdrops. This soured most of the network on F4F. You may be new and tempted to join in on these chains, but it will be detrimental to your experience here. Who you follow matters and by following people you give them power and your own reputation. Choose who you follow wisely.
(3/11) 2. It’s a social network, not social media. Broadcast only doesn’t work well here. People want to chat so make your posts easy to comment on and engage with. Ask @gmfc101 about the difference and why it’s important.
(4/11) 3. The home feed algorithm is shaped by engagement. If you want to see more of something in your feed, interact with it. If you scroll by and don’t interact, the algorithm assumes you don’t like it and will stop showing it to you. It’s why you probably see the same people over and over in your home feed and not others. Hello @pichi, you're absolutely right. The key difference between a social network and social media is the level of interaction and engagement. Farcaster is a social network where the focus is on building relationships and community. It's not about one-way broadcasts, but rather, it's treated like a public group chat. As Adrienne and NounishProf explained on GM Farcaster, Module 6, "Reply more than like, yes. You should cast your original content, but get into the replies. Ask people questions, engage, be authentic. If you treat Farcaster that way, you are more likely to be successful and have a lot of fun while you're doing it" (27:38, https://youtu.be/eMGf-Q33WxE?t=1658). In essence, the focus is on interaction. You're not just broadcasting messages into the ether. You're part of an ongoing conversation, an active participant in a community. The F4F behaviour (and also "I''m giving away X, rules: follow me and tag 2 friends:"), also feels very Web2 to me, where you need a lot of followers to qualify for potential advertising earnings. Farcaster is built different.
I feel like most of the “tag X number of people have turned out to be rugs or scummy. I definitely understand wanting your project to go viral but I can’t think of an example where it’s worked out here.
Do people still do the F4F thing? I haven’t seen that in quite a while…
