In 2020, we released Scoped API Keys. This gave developers flexibility and granularity when creating API Keys. It was a huge step forward and allowed developers to build interesting experiences.
We saw NFT marketplaces use this functionality to give their users a single-use key to upload NFT images from the browser. We saw organization manage their workload and security by generating keys with limited access. We saw developers expand the power of serverless by generating API keys through a serverless function and allowing them to be used on the client-side. The use cases go on and on.
Since releasing Scoped Keys, developers have created over 15 million API Keys! While that number is staggering, we’re not done yet. We want to continue making the lives of developers easy, and are excited to announce new filtering tools for Scoped API Keys.
In the past, we would show all keys ever created, including revoked keys and keys that had exhausted their limited uses. This made for a cluttered experience and it was difficult to find previously created API Keys.
To solve this, we have introduced filtering and search. Whether it’s through our API or through our web app, developers can easily filter API Keys by the following:
Active
Revoked
Exhausted
Limited
In addition, if a developer wants to find a key by the name they provided, we added a new search feature. This makes for a convenient and easy experience when trying to find a specific key.
API Keys are a powerful tool for developers building apps on IPFS. Now, they are even easier to use and find later.
